Why do people ignore me?

Why is it that everyday people ignore me
going past without seeing me
favouring my neighbour instead of me
have I a large proboscis
is there a large pustule on my forehead
dripping ooze.

It's so annoying I cannot connect
with my human race
I have humour by the bucketful
perhaps people want to be sad
ignore me though at your peril
I'm more daring than some
for I have a gun.

Did Ian42 clarify to anyone what his mindsets currently were - and what he expected from Gransnet?

petra Excuse me, please, but I think that your assumption is unkind.

If Ian42 looks as strange as he sounds: no wonder everyone gives him a wide berth!

Why does your plea, Ian42 remind me of these lines?

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me
Think I’ll go and eat worms
Long ones, short ones, fat ones, thin ones
See how they wriggle and squirm

I bite off the heads, and suck out the juice
And throw the skins away
Nobody knows how fat I grow
On worms three times a day
Ohh…nobody loves me.

jeni Tue 22-May-12 19:33:22

Quite. Most of them I gather are scam!

Elegran Tue 22-May-12 18:57:28

Phoenix I hope you told them why you were not taking up their offer - they might change their policy for the next person.

Some of these "work at home" firms have to be seen to be believed. They would have you pay for the privilege of working for them if they could.

Phoenix, I do hope that something suitable comes along for you. But I`m also thankful that I`m out of the rat race now.
Soop, yes, that`s Cara and Gigha, taken from our caravan when at Muasdale. Next time we`re up there? Hopefully next summer, if we haven`t had to part with the caravan before then.

Hello all, sorry for the hi jack & then going absent!

I've got a few offers, all part time at present but hopefully a couple of them can be added together to make up the shortfall!

One company are taking the whatsit though, they interviewd me by phone, as they are in London, and the job is home based. offered me the job, wanted me to go to London for a days training. fair enough, but they wont pay travel expenses. I checked times and prices for the day stated, would have cost me around £200. As they are offering 20 hours a week at £6.50 an hour, before tax and NIC, I really don't think it's financially viable!

phoenix Gosh, it's a pain. Callow Youth is, of course, cheaper than Experienced Phoenix, although not necessarily more economical if Callow Youth needs lots of help or makes a major mistake. Experienced Phoenix may also be threatening to the "boss" advertising the job as her experience might suggest that she could do it a lot better. It's just as irritating when you go for something that doesn't require you range and experience but you reckon would be tolerable and pay the bills. Then they tell you that you are over-qualified and, once again, feel threatened you're after the boss's job by the back door.

Something will turn up trumps, but it is awfully time-consuming chasing it and frustrating waiting for it. Good luck phoenix – keep your chin up, old girl!

No wonder businesses are struggling when they can't see past the end of their noses! (you know what I mean grin)
Go Phoenix, you will succeed! sunshine

when Very well spoken! flowers

whenim64 Tue 22-May-12 11:34:05

phoenix don't despair - something will come your way because you are so active about getting a job and don't have the attitude that something will fall in your lap. If I was an employer, I would snatch your hand off as soon as you walked in the door. Someone with your determination and peristence is going to be a great asset flowers

Bez Tue 22-May-12 11:24:10

Oh Phoenix - there are so many in your position. - my stepson who is a very hard worker used to get so down about it all - he did finally get a job but like so many on minimum wage and he doesn't really like the job and they are not treated well but he says it is better than being on the dole.

This age thing is bad too - maybe employers think they can get away with more with a younger employee - and from what I can see nothing like enough credit is given to people's experience. This is happening in all jobs. DD was a manager in a recruitment agency and is now doing a completely different job at half the money as so many agencies have gone to the wall or greatly cut down on size. She said it was dreadful and very stressful seeing all these people who were well qualified but she knew she had no job for them or no prospect of one coming shortly.

I do wish you all the luck you deserve and the hope something suitable comes along soon.

soop Tue 22-May-12 10:43:19

phoenix I feel your frustration. Life can seem so unfair. Try not to lose your sense of purpose. It matters that you remain positive. ((hugs))

soop Tue 22-May-12 10:39:55

numberplease I loved looking at your photos. Am I right in thinking that your sunsets are over Gigha? When will you be coming this way? flowers

gracesmum Mon 21-May-12 23:05:53

I think many of us can empathise with your plea phoenix - I think it needs a wider audience- like the CEO's of certain firms and recruitment agencies? Also maybe the Letters page of a variety of newspapers and magazines.
Good luck, it's clearly tough flowers

Ariadne Mon 21-May-12 22:09:11

phoenix can we help? xx

jeni Mon 21-May-12 21:29:17

phoenixare you ok?

Anne58 Mon 21-May-12 21:24:50

Why do potential employers and agencies ignore me?

Why is that they cannot see my worth
Favouring those with degrees instead of those with experience
Have I no life skills, people skills, empathy?
I submit my CV, with covering letter
I explain who and what I am, what I can bring to the role and offer them,

It is so frustrating that many do not even reply, even to say "thanks, but no thanks"

I have skills, humour, empathy and more, and yet I am overlooked,
Perhaps employers would rather take on the callow youths, who have little concept of loyalty, responsibility and ethics.

It is so annoying that I seem unable to connect with these people, if indeed "people" they are, by some I do not seem worthy of even the shortest of replies, I have skills, I DO have something to offer,
But beware, I have an internet connection, and your impoliteness and lack of common courtesy might be mentioned on social media sites, as that seems one way to get your attention.

(With apologies and thanks to Ian42

My apologies right now Soop, I`m not trying to compete, but I`ve just uploaded 2 of my own Kintyre sunset pics, I have a few more, but not as good as yours. xx
