Yes!

Daisyanswerdo Tue 21-Aug-12 14:55:32

I think it still works, Hunt. Gibbous means hump-backed, so it's just that there is more moon than dark, more than half of it is visible, but there will still be a round shape for fingers and thumbs, either waxing or waning.

Daisyanswerdo Tue 21-Aug-12 15:00:18

Just to confuse things, when I was in New Zealand I noticed that the moon was back to front. People started to avoid me because I was trying to understand. The answer, I finally realised is that it - or rather I - was upside-down! Since here and NZ are two extremes, what happens on the Equator?

POGS Tue 21-Aug-12 15:16:55

Can someone confirm what the crescent moon means.

I am going from goodnight to republicanism in my weird head!

Either way is fine if wanted, just missed what it means.

JO4 Tue 21-Aug-12 15:19:35

It would mean something like, "Night-night. Sleep tight" on a late evening thread. Would be nice. smile

Yes I vote for a crescent moon smile

Love the crescent moon idea, I have been away, how long is the flag staying, I like it and will be sad to see it disappear.

Anagram Tue 21-Aug-12 16:37:01

Until after the Paralympics, Grannyeggs
flag flag flag

NfkDumpling Tue 21-Aug-12 21:41:55

If we have a sun, we should have a moon. And why should the union flag be temporary? I vote we keep the flag too. Who decides what occasion is suitable for flag waving?

POGS Tue 21-Aug-12 21:54:27

Nfk
I agree. smile

Isn't it possible to turn the wretched things off on this forum?

The only emotion they provoke here is irritation...

Butternut Wed 19-Sept-12 19:15:25

feetlebaum - Just wondering if it's the whole emoticon thing that's irritating you, or this specific one?
I think they do help to a certain extent, when facial expressions and verbal intonations are not possible when chatting on forums.

Anyway, no one has to use them - although they can be a very useful form of short-hand.

It's a friendly thing to do sometimes.

feetlebaum Fri 28-Sept-12 17:58:59

I've been on boards where people over-use them, to the point where they don't say anything, just send a string of emoticons. Just as irritating are the folks who post a message that contains nothing but a url, usually one that links to some news story -- I would at least like to know if it's a) something I have already read elsewhere, or b) about some pop celeb or footballer, in which I have no interest.

jeni Fri 28-Sept-12 18:16:28

Flag has gone so where's the crescent moon?GNHQ?
