We've probably had one of these threads before but I couldn't find it.

Seeing susiecb's latest post made me think about how much I would have loved to look like Twiggy when, in reality, I have only been mistaken for Sandie Shaw smile or Cilla Black confused when I was MUCH younger and MUCH MUCH thinner.

More recently, I have been likened to Brenda Blethin which is quite flattering but not in the Twiggy catergory, either as she was then or now! sad

It's a funny thing, isn't it, this 'looky-likey' business? Very, very subjective, and most people are not actually that analytical, so they pick up on a particular feature rather than accuracy.
A few years ago I was buying a new car, and became aware of some of the showroom staff whispering and looking at me. Turns out they thought I was Julie Walters!
I look nothing like Julie Walters, but at the time we both had the same dark, short, choppy hairstyle!
I have a photo of me with my eldest daughter when she was a new baby. It just happens to catch a particular tilt of my head, and a particular smile, that make me look uncannily like the late Princess Diana. Once again, I don't actually look anything like her!
My middle daughter was often told as a teenager that she looked like Drew Barrymore. There is a slight resemblance around the jaw and mouth only, and my daughter was not flattered by the comparison!
My youngest daughter has, over the years been compared to 'Pink' and Lily Allen. Apart from being a singer, she bears no resemblance to either. It came down to hair colour and style at the time. She wasn't flattered by either comparison either!
So, having dismissed the 'looks like' syndrome, I do think that with my 2 Aussie sons in law, one can look uncannily like Johnny Depp, and the other alternates between looking like Vincent Simone and Hugh Jackman smile

My DH is often told he looks like Richard Branson and in the 70s was taken for Ginger Baker.
For myself, my daughter tells me I am the image of Kathy Burke!

When I was "in my prime" and had a "purdy" hairstyle I was told I looked like Anna Ford. I was flattered actually - always liked Anna.

My ex asked yesterday if I could do a northern accent, why? I asked as I was laughing and joking around, well you a re a dead ringer for Sarah Millican the stand up comedienne, a few years ago when I was working I was told I was like Anne Robinson as I had the small metal glasses and my hair was red (dyed) I could wink like her but quickly changed my hair and glasses.

It was my junior partner in the practice. Rugby playing type! Never known for his tact!

JessM Mon 04-Jun-12 16:01:30

But even so! Insensitive!

jeni Mon 04-Jun-12 15:48:55

I was somewhat gross plump at the time.

JessM Mon 04-Jun-12 15:28:34

Sort of joke you should only make about yourself jeni

Ella46 Mon 04-Jun-12 15:14:55

Some one once said, the Russians were sending up a satellite to photograph my dark side sad. I was pregnant at the time!

Anagram Mon 04-Jun-12 13:28:09

In my heyday I was likened to Nicola Pagett and/or Jenny Hanley of Magpie fame - but I doubt I'd ever have been mistaken for either of them!

Dench is chic gran personified. Her hair suits her face shape as well. My mate richard has likened me to ms Lumley and when I was a teacher in my 20s some of the kids did too (Purdey). She and I both have a toothy grin. But I would have to wear a lot of makeup and hairspray to achieve the rest of the look.

gracesmum Mon 04-Jun-12 11:49:33

gracesmum Mon 04-Jun-12 11:49:11

I would be sooooooooooooo flattered - she is my total role model!
Once, some years ago when my hair was (still) red, a neighbour's little girl came to the door and asked me if I was "related " to Anne Robinson! Wish I could do the wink!

Bags Mon 04-Jun-12 11:28:05

Do you live on Scalpay?

Bags Mon 04-Jun-12 11:26:41

I would love that too, scalpay smile! Judi Dench is great!

grannyscalpay Mon 04-Jun-12 10:49:21

Overheard people at the airport wondering if I was Judy Dench. Loved it!

I've never been mistaken for anyone famous but we used to stay in an hotel in Tenerife regularly (twice a year for about 10 years) and one of the waiters insisted my husband looked like Paul Newman!! (I wish!!!). I could never see the likeness myself but it did result in our receiving prompt service every time we stayed

specki4eyes Sun 03-Jun-12 22:08:59

In the late 70s I had a sort of Purdey cut and often got mistaken for Isla St Clair. Shut that door! But with shoulder length hair I too resembled Diana Rigg Sook! Now I resemble the back end of a bus.

Ella46 Sun 03-Jun-12 10:34:17

Glamma grin I bet you do!

glammanana Sun 03-Jun-12 10:26:15

Mr. G is a cross between Uncle Albert (only fools) and Captain Birdseye !!!,he thinks he resembles Sean Connery (I wish) grin

Greatnan Sun 03-Jun-12 10:07:12

From your photo, Bags, I think you are definitely a Bergman look-alike!
