Opening ceremony

Is the entry of all the athletes following immediately after the opening ceremony? I`m just thinking that it`s going to take an awful lot of time and effort to clear the arena for them. Or am I on the completely wrong waveband?

I think the plan is to do something different from the spectacular displays of recent years, culminating in the phenomenally expensive ceremonies in Beijing. I think it's wise to avoid attempting to outdo the last show, but do have my doubts about these over-elaborate ceremonies at the beginning and end of what is supposed to be a sporting event –especially at such a cost.

TBH I reckon it's a no win situation! I would not want to be in charge..whatever the budget was!
Too much extravagance vs not enough showing off what 'we' can do! Do you try to 'outdo' the previous games or reflect the austere times? You will please some and anger others whatever way you go! Think I will start a new thread.

If I thought the ceremony money would truly have been spent on something useful I would have campaigned hard but I know it would have been wasted elsewhere!

Don't mean to sound defeatist , just realistic in picking the battles I fight !

Rix, not Ricks – but I don't think Whitehall farces generally included sheep glass but I know what you mean. Come to think of it, a lot of vicars running about without their trousers on might be quite fun.

The amount of things they could have done and this is what they come up with and can you imagine all those animals just going on walk about it will look like a Brian Ricks (sp) farce!

There's sure to be morris dancing!

Sound's a bit dull compared to other Countries opening ceremonies doesn't it,
and that amount of money for a ceremony is obscene
