Went to our daughter's for lunch yesterday for Father's day. Whilst eating our delicious lunch my daughter said look out of the window and there on her bird table was a green woodpecker happily tucking into a bag of peanuts. We had never seen a woodpecker before. What a beautiful colourful bird and just a yard away from us. Apparently two visit her bird table so there must be a nest nearby. We also saw a pair of blue tits come to feed. When driving home about 10.30pm what did we see but a badger (never seen one before), some rabbits and a fox.

What a lovely day you had full of nice surprises ? We are fortunate to live close to the beach and we have a lot of wildlife visiting at differant times of the year, but my most favourite has got to be our regular fox who whilst we are in a small town has made his home not to far away from us,he/she does not cause a problem with regard to any domestic pets in the area and one gentleman who has an allotment leaves the fox bread and milk it always goes as foxes tend to keep to the same routine I have seen it on many occassions and it is a magnificent creature. We also have a vast selection of wild birds who nest in the park areas near to the sand dunes.

that sounds lovely lucyella what a good day! ..It is lovely to see wildlife. On Christmas Eve, when staying with my daughter, a small deer came into the garden! We told the kids it had been sent by the man in red to make sure they were ready for bed!!

That's an unusual sight, Lucyella, We have greater spotted woodpeckers feeding on nuts in our garden but our greens only feed on insects on the ground.

We are all so lucky to have seen such a lot of wildlife. Merlogran I shall have to tell my daughter that your green woodpeckers only feed off insects on the ground. She has two that visit and eat peanuts and they do not seem to mind if you watch them which was lucky for us. Nanaej what a wonderful sight on Christmas Eve to see a small deer. My children would have thought it was magical and would have been in bed so fast but probably awake until the small hours. Thanks for all your replies.
