Moving baby to his own room

I think absentdaughter would have been about 18 months owing to circumstances. She had a crib and then a cot in our bedroom, although, as a young, wholly breast-fed baby, she often shared our bed. Youngest grandson (21/2 months) has his own room with cot just opposite his parents' room and seems quite content. Mum takes him into bed with her when he wakes hungry.

My first two were in their own rooms and own cots from day one as well. I couldn't sleep if I could hear all the snuffles and murmurings of DD1 so set the pattern then. No point being an exhausted mother. Hearing them when they called in the night was never a problem. We left bedroom doors open. We never had a monitor. Never needed one. I suppose if one lived in a huge house and the baby's bedroom was miles away from the parents' bedroom or out of hearing of the living rooms you might need one, but we were in a small house so that problem didn't arise.

By the time DD3 came along I guess I was tired enough to sleep through the snufflings because I had her carry-cot in my bedroom for a few months. I think once she slept through the night (20 weeks old to the day), we turfed her out into her big cot in her own room.

Goodoint, nanaej! My last child was like that; he had to be woken up to feed, and slept through the night from the time we left hospital. If he did wake up, he'd lie for a while, blowing little bubbles. His brother is only 16 months older, and there was DD as well, so I remember feeling so grateful for this peaceful child.

(However, he was hell once he started moving!)

My DD1 was in her own room from the day I came home from hospital. She was a terrible sleeper day or night.. we even drove her round at night to get her to sleep and I knew every inch of Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park as I just walked her and walked her! I remember crying with exhaustion and a feeling of utter uselessness because I could not settle her. DD2 slept in our room for 3 months & slept four hours between every feed from day one and was so calm I kept poking her to make sure she was OK! Do not think it was due to where they slept they were just different babies!

When we had our first 2, we were living in a dilapidated rented cottage, with a 2nd bedroom unfit for use, so we had first one baby in with us, on my side of the bed, then 13 months later, another, so we had the eldest in the big cot on hubby`s side of the bed, and the new baby in a carry cot on my side. By the time we moved house they were 2 years and 11 months, respectively, and they then went, no trouble, into a room together. All the others we had with us for about 6 months, whereas our own children have put their babies in their own rooms from the start, and had no problems.

3/4 weeks and in those days we didn't have a monitor. They slept better and so did we. I quite liked sitting in the nursery in a rocking chair feeding in the middle of the night.

I think my 8month gd went in her room about 3/4months. She goes off to sleep happily on her own at night and for day naps. When she wakes, she plays for a while before shouting for attention!

When DS1 was born we were living in a rented cottage with a Jack and Jill bathroom between two bedrooms. He was such and easy baby that he went into his own room, albeit with doors open at about 4 weeks and slept through the night by six weeks. Little brother was a different kettle of fish altogether, though I couldn't have slept with him in the same room for any length of time - he snuffled and almost snored! Still does.

I can't remember, but I'm sure my DD was older than six weeks! I think probably about four months.

6 months is latest advice with a baby monitor in Moses basket inside cot for a few days then the cot x

Same as you, Mishap about six to eight weeks. DDs and DiL all did the same so I like to think I got something right
