Don't know what came over me. I have a broken washing machine that I have put out into the back garden so that the local council can come and take it away for re-cycling or whatever they do with them. It has to be easily accessible but not in front of your house or on the pavement. I put it to the side, not in the middle of the lawn. Paid them £12 to do so two weeks ago and still waiting, not really concerned, they are usually a bit slow. This afternoon a man who lives down the street came and knocked on my door and said it was a bloody disgrace having a broken washing machine in the back garden, that this was a nice estate and not 'Shameless' and if it wasn't moved in the next 24 hours he would report me to the council for creating an eyesore! I said two words to him , the second was 'off' and the first had four letters, then I shut the door in his face. I just flipped and dont understand it. I never swear and am usually quite laid back.

I don't lose my temper very often, but have realised that, when I do it's usually because I'm not feeling very well but I'm trying to carry on as if I'm ok. On the subject of Boots, I understand that they are going to be taken over by an American company.

bikergran Wed 20-Jun-12 21:02:20

Now then girls!

It seems to be that "my stick" is in great demand! therefore I am going to have to ask you to all form an orderly que smile smallest first, tall ones at the back grin

may I remind you that the stick is pointed at one end(although due to Health and Safety reasons I have had to sandpaper the point down a little) and blunt! at the other.! grin

also!! before I can allow usage aof the stick, one must have a valid reason

Hence ! you must disclose as to what purpose you need the stcik for ? shock

You want to be careful about lending out your 'poking stick' Bikergran when we were putting up a fence (on our land) our neighbour, who hates anything we do, called the police out and told them that OH had 'poked him with a stick'!!! OH had very politely asked neighbour to remove himself and his ranting from our property as the fence had nothing to do with him. The very nice, and very young PC could hardly contain his smile when he came around to tell us what had been reported. smile

Nag....nag....nag....

granjura Wed 20-Jun-12 16:32:06

Hmmm - but you were supposed to go to a nurse or doctor to change the dressing, no? Arggh smile

Our local boots was great I have to say. About 10 years ago I was in town with our new school French assistante. We went for coffee and I suddenly felt very sick and disoriented- as if totally drunk. The poor girl had to hold me all the way to Boots and she sat me on a chair by the Dispensary and asked for the Pharmacist to come and talk to me. Turned out I had an attack of Mesnieres, and the pharmacist called my GP to get a prescription for Buscopam over the phone, then called a taxi to take us home- and when it arrived helped me to the taxi. He then phoned later to find out if I was OK.

I was surprised when I went to a large Boots near my sister's house in Manchester after I had scalded my chest and they had neither large dressings nor anything to clean the area. I think a lot must depend on the individual manager.

In defense of Boots (sorry folks) the one in Perth is great and the service is excellent. The staff are quick, polite and helpful. I was there on Monday and was delighted with the optician and the care I was given.

As for swearing at that neighbour, good for you frida, sometimes you just have to let fly, especially to pernickety ones.

nelliedeane Wed 20-Jun-12 15:44:06

blush I worked for Boots opticians ....duck....for years....and I agree with you ,I was never popular with management as I firmly believed that they put their spiel about being caring health professionals, and it was all sales oriented ,we had targets to ac hive sales wise, although not commission based, our salary was performance related, staff where in house trained with the exception of optometrists who where mainly locums, who where paid huge amounts,I was expected to measure and dispense specs with very little training,in the very competitive field of optics which was fashion based, people with specific complicated prescriptions and requirements with frames where not catered for, they so blatantly catered for designer frames and lenses.....guess what since I left 9 years ago I have never set foot in there again....

Kitty we used the multiples but had so many problems we switched. Give me a small private company any day. Good luck next time.

kittylester Wed 20-Jun-12 11:04:39

Alison we have always used a private optician but were seduced by the two for one offer at Boots. It was a silly idea! And I think we will have to go back to the proper one sooner rather than later. Still angry

AlisonMA Wed 20-Jun-12 10:51:44

kitty we used a private optician in Guildford and he was not only better but cheaper than the multiples. Now we use a private one here and they said neither of us needs new specs.

kittylester Tue 19-Jun-12 20:36:47

merlotgran Tue 19-Jun-12 19:00:15

Pity he doesn't live next door, Frida, then you could go the whole hog. I could lend you a couple of noisy cockerels and my DGs would be happy to bounce up and down on their trampoline all day. grin

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 18:12:53

Practically TT are we?grin

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 18:12:24

That's OK, kittylester! I'm not a big fan of Boots' services either.
