Bogie or go-kart?

Talk of favourite toys has dredged up memories of bogies – home-made go-karts. So far we've established that in Salford, West and East Yorkshire, and Cardiff, one of these was known as a bogie. Did anyone have another name for a bogie? And if so, what part of the country were you in?

Go-Kart was not heard of when I was a child in the 1940's! I believe a bogie is the thing used on railways, where two men pump it up and down by hand - much used in chases in old comedy films.

My brother and I used to call them trolleys. We lived on a quiet Oxford road which sloped - ideal.

We called them bogies in Hull (East Yorks) but my husband is from Barnsley (South Yorks) and he had a trolley. My brother's bogie was just a plank of wood on some old pram wheels. A go-kart sounds a lot more sophisticated.

In Kent = go-karts (in fact the one Princess Di used to take her boys to, is quite close)

Go-carts here on The Wirral,my twin brother took the small wheels off the pram mum used for my youngest sister for his and pleaded it wasn't him,but in those days the make of the pram was embezzeled on the centre of the wheels !!! so he was well and truely caught out.
