Kate's clothes bill

So the Duchess of Cambridge spends close to her husband's salary on clothes does she? Attagirl! A woman after my own heart.
I was so impressed that she wears things several times, borrows/shares with her mum/buys high street fashion especially in the sales/ seems quite thrifty. I am glad her FIL foots the bill, Camilla clearly has him well trained.
Apparently Kate could spend less if she negotiated discounts with designers or accepted "freebies" - but what a meal the press would make of that!

And poor Charlie has awarded himself an extra couple of millions as dear DIL is costing too much money. (blimey wait until the granchildren come along he will need another 10 million ).I am planning on awarding myself a couple of million this year just to see me through ....you know how it is. Hope you don't mind all you hardworking tax payers!!! Ha ha

I am glad he didn't choose a bookish, rather plump girl - wouldn't do much for the country's image!

janepearce6....I'm stunned at that comment. What image do you want for the country? We're a society of size obsessed illiterate clothes hangers?

Charles' gets £2 million from the treasury for his 'expenses'. So it does cost us money.

It probably wouldn't fit one of my legs. The Duchess of Corwall is the one who yaks a lot.

I looked for one of the day dresses she wore online and found it for £75, but of course it was sold out.

I think Kate is very charming but I think too many exquisite outfits and large hats have been seen lately on all members of the Royal family. People are terribly anxious at the moment and although big events can be entertaining, it can appear unfeeling to the general public to be seen as too extravagant. Even her cheapest dresses are too much for my modest budget even for a special occasion. She looks pretty in the simplest clothes actually.

Charles gets nothing from the Civil List so it's not a problem (can't believe I'm about to chat about royalty!) she looks lovely and as we see her so often, I am glad he didn't choose a bookish, rather plump girl - wouldn't do much for the country's image! Talking about obscene extravagance - that is certainly how I do view the Monarchy - but apparently they don't cost us much - the Queen has never put a foot wrong but let's end it after her - can't believe the youngsters want to go on - this is where George Osborne could thinks of cuts - a rather less visible lot would be my idea!!

And me!confused
But anyway I'm to bed!
Got to drive to Gloucester tomorrow for my DGD' s 1st birthday party!smile

merlotgran Fri 29-Jun-12 21:29:41

I've been assuming we're talking about Kate but maybe whitewave meant Camilla does a lot of talking. I'm a bit confused as well.

greenmossgiel Fri 29-Jun-12 21:27:47

grin

Anagram Fri 29-Jun-12 21:26:33

Oh, no not you, green - I was actually wondering what vampirequeen meant! smile

greenmossgiel Fri 29-Jun-12 21:24:32

Oh - got off the thread a bit there! Absolutely nothing to do with Kate at all. blush

Anagram Fri 29-Jun-12 21:21:55

What's that got to do with Kate, though? confused

greenmossgiel Fri 29-Jun-12 21:20:40

Alice Keppel....was that her name, the Edward V11's mistress, who was Camilla's great-grandmother? hmm

merlotgran Fri 29-Jun-12 20:44:46

Don't know if Judy Garland was a republican but this might have been her take:

The little duchess is contemplating
How much her clothes are gonna cost.
She is the subject of much debating ,
She maybe doesn’t give a toss.
Her hubbie’s wages don’t quite pay the bill,
His granny’s subjects don’t have cash to spill.
C’mon get happy she’s got her Choos on
Exudes ‘designer’ all the way,
Shout hallelujah, come on get happy,
She’s heading for the judgement day.

merlotgran Fri 29-Jun-12 20:05:25

Have I got the wrong duchess? shock

merlotgran Fri 29-Jun-12 20:00:02

Eh? confused

Anagram Fri 29-Jun-12 19:06:31

hmm

vampirequeen Fri 29-Jun-12 19:04:17

Maybe cos they're family with Camilla's great-grandmother being Edward VII's mistress so they have a lot in common.

merlotgran Fri 29-Jun-12 16:59:29

I have noticed that, whitewave even when she's sitting next to the Queen. Maybe it's nerves or maybe she's afraid of looking bored or doesn't want to be branded shy like Diana.

whitewave Fri 29-Jun-12 16:38:10

Has anyone noticed that the Duchess never seems to stop talking?

nanaej Fri 29-Jun-12 14:24:31

OK so
PA staff x 2 i.e. 1 each
a social secretary to maintain diary
an admin secretary to respond to letters etc
a PR person to write speeches etc
a political advisor
a team leader to keep above in order

personal staff x 2 for Highgrove and London
chauffeur
cook
housekeeper
cleaners /maids/ waiting staff
valets/butlers/dressers
gardeners
grooms
handyman
boot boy

Not sure about the business e.g Duchy of Cornwall biscuits etc does it self fund??

people will argue that it is providing employment and he ought to have twice as many on the pay roll!grin

absentgrana Fri 29-Jun-12 13:54:26

Why does a middle aged couple require staff costing £7 million?

nanaej Fri 29-Jun-12 13:36:14

If you can't manage on £18m there is something wrong with you isn't there??? Let me try if for a year or two and I will let you know! grin

vampirequeen Fri 29-Jun-12 13:30:34

Today it's been announced that Prince Charles' cut of our taxes has increased to just under £2 million. Plus he gets £18million from the Duchy of Cornwall. I admit he pays over £4million in tax but tbh he still seems to be in profit to me.
