A quieter day today, and the sun is shining.

Washing stones from the water feature with eldest granddaughter - now there is absolutely NO green on them - shame really!! And playing hide and seek in the garden - easy really as she tells me where to hide when it's my turn and shrieks like mad when she is hiding!

Had a lovely, lovely lunch with good friends, came back in time to see the end of the Tour, had a little snooze, packed ready for early start on trip to Wales via Hampshire (complicated, involves Theseus' classic MG now having a holiday with DS1 while we are house moving..)

Yes they were glass I dressed them in their party clothes 1 mile from the venue. I think DIL guessed we were going to take the children because she could not find their best shoes and dresses.

After a trip to garden centre with DD1 & DGS2 this morning I went up the A3 to celebrate youngest nephew's 13th birthday..lovely get together with my brothers, their OH and 3 of my 4 nephews. DD2 and her 2 girls came too as did my Aunt (87). Lovely sunny afternoon with lots of water guns, laughter, food & wine!

I actually did some work today - took my bedding to the laundrette and while it was in the machine I took my car to the car wash and vacuumed the interior, which was disgusting. It is impossible to do it at home as I am on the second floor. It is due for its two-yearly test tomorrow - perhaps a clean interior will make the test centre give it a clean bill of health!

Cars are much more expensive in France than in England, but I wanted a left hand drive - it is difficult enough to drive on mountain roads with sheer unfenced drops on one side and a high cliff on the other! I hate having to reverse round corners if I meet a logging lorry on a single track road.
I knew exactly which car I wanted - a Fiat Panda Climbing which is a very small 4 x 4. They are hard to find - the French tend to hang on to their cars for years. A friend on an expat forum told me about one near her home in Strasbourg, so the day before I signed the contract for my flat I took the train from Geneva and bought the car and drove it back. It has been very good and I don't anticipate any problems in the test, but you never know what they might find! I am hoping it will last until I go to NZ. I will buy a car in England and ship it out, as cars are also very expensive there. Of course, I will need a right hand drive.
I have got my breathalyser now, to conform to the new law.

Well, I got up at a reasonable hour - 7am, took the dog for a short walk in the park and I just noticed she has toddled off back upstairs and got back in her bed! What a hard life she has!

I'm going to do some much needed weeding. It's a beautiful sunny summer day at last.

Lovely day here too Whenim64. Doing the laundry as it's sooooo nicecto hang it out on the line.went to a folk music festival yesterday and had a great time so catching up a bit today but will find time to enjoy sunshine.

Putting together another vast vat of stew to take to Anglesey to feed my mother (1), three of my siblings plus partners and offspring (12), an aunt and uncle, a cousin plus partner and their offspring (7), DD1 and co (3, but she's eating for two, so 4), and 'us' (3).

My mum's got her own special stew pot with nothing 'poisonous' such as peppers or celery in it. Aren't I good? [pats self on back]

DH pampered me this morning, he brought breakfast in bed and told me to have a restful day after a weekend babysitting. Weather looks nice, think I will go for a leisurely stroll later.

Bought an old picture (nothing valuable, just an old Edwardian sepia print) while I was down in Yorkshire at the weekend. Got it from a charity shop and it's really quite nice. This morning has been taken up moving everything around on the walls to find the perfect place for it.....discovering dusty cobwebs, and blowing them about a bit....and now am waiting for the builders to return to see if they can get a space in the weather to finish off replacing my kitchen roof. I'm really a bit fed-up about it because it leaked badly last week and our trusty builder said it would need a lot of work to sort it. Pound signs flew in front of my eyes - however, having seen the state of the roof once the slates were removed, I'm glad it leaked.......the electric cables were lying in water....a terrible accident waiting to happen!

Gosh bags are you all staying in the same place, that is some family holiday!

I take earplugs everywhere I go! So used to the quiet of where we are that even small, supposedly peaceful villages and towns can seem like rowdy metropolises (any Greek scholars around? what's the plural of metropolis? oh, wait a mo.... consults Chambers.... it is metropolises after all. Well, well).

The aunt and uncle are staying somewhere nearby in their camper van, and the cousin's family is staying in a B & B just for the weekend. But DD's inlaws may come for a non-staying visit at some point.

Well, the rain did stop and the evening light improved for a while so I got a little more work done. The house martins went mad! They have been cooped up all day, poor things.
