Happy to log on after a short break in London. I've missed you all. Have masses to catch up on. Will need to return later to tell you all about our trip. For all the pain of the journey down, it was a marvellous treat and we've returned with some sooper memories.

Thanks elegran. Thank goodness we don't do that today! The only bit of it that is 'evidence based' is tasting it. Mind you, you can always tell if you've had asparagus!

"Feeling it in your waters" is most likely from the use of uroscopy or "testing the water" which in medieval times was a common way of diagnosing illness. A skilled physician could deduce a lot about the health of a patient from the colour, consistency, small etc of his urine.

Some patients would in turn test the doctor on his ability by substituting a flask of someone else's urine to see if he could still diagnose what was wrong with them ( www.wondersandmarvels.com/2012/05/a-whiff-of-trouble-arnau-of-vilanovas-uroscopy-advice.html )

The passage of time, jeni. grin

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 14:25:07

What happened between 2 and 3?

Thinking of the occasion, just 38 years ago today, when my youngest son entered the world. For all his shortcomings - of which there aren't too many, and his considerable achievemnts, I'm hugely proud of him. Tomorrow, my eldest son celebrates his 51st birthday...one of the kindest, most generous people I know. In November, middle son will reach 48...young-at-heart, good-natured and a brilliant father. Love them all to bits smile

flowers Golden Well done to the little ballerina. Enjoy!
Great news, Ariadne...let this be what you've been patiently waiting for. sunshine

I returned to the health and leisure club today and have ultra clean pores. I also swam a kilometre. I have joined the club and am having an induction session on the machines in the gym tomorrow. I haven't been to a gym for years and they didn't have machines in them then. This is all very exciting.

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 12:15:41

Aaaahsunshine how nice golden!

Anagram Wed 11-Jul-12 11:35:47

All my Google knows is that it can be either 'water' or 'waters'....confused

GoldenGran Wed 11-Jul-12 11:30:59

Have a great time Gally, and Glass. I'm off to my daughter today, so i too will get cuddles from GC. Little boast coming up, DGD, aged 6, has got a distinction in her ballet exam, with the highest marks anyone in her dance school has ever had. The talent doesn't come from me, am not a very graceful dancer!

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 11:16:53

Google doesn't know

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 11:14:22

I thought it was water

Anagram Wed 11-Jul-12 11:10:58

Where on earth did that phrase actually come from? confused What waters?

Anagram Wed 11-Jul-12 11:09:46

Oh, that's good news, Ariadne! smile
I'm sure things will go smoothly this time - I feel it in my waters! grin

Ariadne Wed 11-Jul-12 11:01:47

Enjoying the sunshine while I can; at the moment it's hard to be
I've it will rain. But it will. I can see the clouds rolling up. sad

Gally and glass enjoy every minute - you deserve it.

But - we've accepted another offer on the house, from a first time buyer; we are being fairly cynical in a "believe it when we see it" kind of way, after last time. Nevertheless, all three lots of viewers from last weekend wanted the house, so maybe there's a fall back position. But I am a tiny bit happy, just quelling it! So, once more, fingers crossed.

Two littlest DGCs for the weekend! Yippee - now I'll get to see "Ice Age 4" as well as having some cuddles.

Happy Holidays Gally and continue to enjoy yours Glass.
Today I picked more blackcurrants which had to be dealt with quickly as they were rather 'damp'. Some frozen, some jammed and a few made into a b/currant fool. I now have 18lbs gooseberry jelly and 18 lbs b/currant jam, most of which will go to friends and family.
What I really should be doing is packing! Off to Anglesey tomorrow for a few days then across to Yorkshire to look after GC for 2 weeks.
Sadly its cooker top first and kitchen floor next (I'm a messy jam maker!).
So much last-minute 'stuff' to sort as friends arrive a day after we get back......phew!

Glass, glad to hear that you are enjoying your holiday so far, hope the weather continues to be good for you.
Gally, looking forward to hearing from you in Sydney.
Today, I`ve been run ragged by small grandson, who`s discovered a new pastime, going to "watch grandad on his game," (PS3), but it also has to include going up the stairs on my stairlift, rather than on foot, and needing a wee every few minutes, so I have to be there at the bottom when he comes down, our bathroom being downstairs.

greenmossgiel Tue 10-Jul-12 16:35:38

absent, you're bound to be weak after all those pores have been cleansed....but I think you should go back tomorrow just in case any have been missed! grin

Annobel Tue 10-Jul-12 15:25:55

Now there's another idea for out Gransnet retirement home!

absentgrana Tue 10-Jul-12 14:53:38

Today I have been to a private health and leisure club for the first time in my life, courtesy of a friend who is a member. I have been in a steam room, also for the first time ever. I liked that better than the sauna and followed the advice and did it twice to get the pores really cleansed. Then sat in the jacuzzi to finish off after all the other stuff. The only problem is that I have been home for two hours now and have still not done anything useful. She said I could come with her again tomorrow. grin

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 14:40:44

Gally, have a wonderful time in Oz. Your family must be looking forward to seeing you as much as you are looking forward to seeing them. Let's hope their winter is better than our summer - not difficult! sunshine

harrigran Tue 10-Jul-12 14:10:45

Have a good trip Gally smile

greenmossgiel Tue 10-Jul-12 14:03:19

Good to hear from you, Gally! Sounds like you're having a fine time - looking forward to the latest news from Sydney. Have a comfortable journey. smile
