Happy to log on after a short break in London. I've missed you all. Have masses to catch up on. Will need to return later to tell you all about our trip. For all the pain of the journey down, it was a marvellous treat and we've returned with some sooper memories.

Hope it works out for the best in the long run Annobel hard not to worry on their behalf.

Have spent the day rather damp! Rain not the cause but water pistols & paddling pools and three lively DGC!

AlieOxon Sun 12-Aug-12 21:00:06

Annobel good luck to your DS.

I was having a quiet day. Watering, reading 'Mary Barton' again and getting a lot more out of the book ... and fell asleep after lunch!

- until I had to look up how to complain about your GP for my daughter, who has, I think, a very valid complaint.

-and until the shock news about a possible greatgrandchild....see other thread.

Going to bed - oh. I may watch some of the closing ceremony.
Anyway, goodnight all.

Good luck to your son Annobel - these jobs that demand your soul and a bit more are family-wreckers. This may be a golden opportunity to rethink his life and set off on a different and exciting path.

And to day I have been.........singing at a wedding - again! I am getting to know the service off by heart!

jeni Mon 13-Aug-12 07:41:38

Morning all. Chippenham today hence being up at an unearthly hour.
Make sure you all behave while I'm awaygrin

Annobel Mon 13-Aug-12 10:07:41

Not a chance, jeni!

I phoned Virgin about my malfunctioning digi box. Got straight through to helpful lady who told me what to do - unplug it and wait ten seconds, and plug it back in again - and it worked! Why didn't I think of that? Full marks to Virgin for quick and efficient service - and patience dealing with idiot!

......just catching up with emails etc after a full-on and very tiring weekend!! Poor little Littlest Fella's thumb is cracked and was strapped up - he calls it his "ouchy finger" and it's his right hand so eating and all the things he has learned to do, have to be done with left hand only. Plastic bag over the hand in the bath for instance and I had to be very careful putting his t shirts and pj tops on. the other fingers on that hand are now bright blue and obviously very bruised.
Calpol and Ibuprofen helped but he had 2 disturbed nights, waking at 3 am both times and quite inconsolable so I finished up sleeping (if you can call it that) in the bed beside his cot both times. We then got up around 5/5.30 as Little Bro wakes up around 6 ready for his bottle and somehow I wanted to get a shower before I was in charge of both of them! They were lovely however - just tiring as little people are but LF is very loving - when they left he said "I want more Granny and Grandpa. You come up my house soon!" and Little Bro is just the sunniest little chap- he got 2 top teeth while he was here and has an enormously wide mouth and huge grin with these little "toothy pegs" right in the middle.Apparently they were asleep before the car was out of the village when they left - I was too!!!
So that's my Granny points topped up until the New York weekend which will be challenging but I now know we can cope (after a fashion)
Early night tonight.
(later)
I have just heard from DD that LF has to have an operation on his hand tomorrow. She is a bit shell-shocked about it all and I have to take DH to London for Liver Clinic appointment but have offered to go up on Wed as an extra pair of hands (or a shoulder) I know this is not life threatening and other Grannies have faced much more serious, but just thinking of LF having a general anaesthetic is like a punch in the stomach.sad

GoldenGran Mon 13-Aug-12 20:34:49

(((hugs))) gracesmum, good luck tomorrow for all of you.anything happening to your children and grandchildren is always worrying, no matter what other people are going through.flowers

JessM Mon 13-Aug-12 20:39:19

Awwww gracesmum I was wondering how it went. Poor little chap. At least they are getting on with it asap if it has to be done.

Sook Mon 13-Aug-12 21:00:21

gracesmum Hope everything goes well for your DH and Littlest Fella flowers If I lived in your area I would be happy to have Grace for you. After looking after my neighbours Dalmation for a couple of days I could easily manage a pack of greyhounds blindfolded.

jeni Mon 13-Aug-12 21:21:25

I agree! I've a hard week so won't be posting much! I'm ok! Just tired!
Night all!

Annobel Mon 13-Aug-12 21:25:50

Poor wee fella. I hope all goes well. I'm sure BCH is still the same great hospital it was 37 years ago when we spent a lot of time there. When you do see him, ((((hugs)))) from lots of grans.

Ella46 Mon 13-Aug-12 21:29:41

crimson Mon 13-Aug-12 21:30:13

Will be thinking of you gracesmum. I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's rotten for him.

grannyactivist Mon 13-Aug-12 21:47:33

Jess Sometimes a good cry is really needed, hope you feel better for it. flowers
Gracesmum bet you were glad it didn't happen when you were on Granny duty; I live in dread of major accidents happening on my watch! No doubt you'll be clock watching until you hear all is well tomorrow. Will be thinking of you and the little one.
Today I've been to visit the venue for my son's wedding reception; a very stunning barn in the middle of nowhere. The lovely bride-to-be and her family are great at including me and the Wonderful Man in the planning and I'm very appreciative. I had a bit of a moment the other day when I saw something that I thought would make a brilliant stocking present for my son; then realised that I won't be the one making his stocking this year. sad
Happily the moment quickly passed and I began thinking it will soon be payback time; it's about time my young folk started thinking about making me a Christmas stocking. grin

Gally Mon 13-Aug-12 22:26:07

gracesmum Tue 14-Aug-12 11:28:02

So true ga - very relieved it didn't happen on my watch![relieved] emoticon
Good news is he is out of theatre and sleeping off his anaesthetic.smile

Annobel Tue 14-Aug-12 11:30:03

So pleased for him, gracesmum. I hope he recovers quickly - small children are remarkably resilient. smile

Mamie Tue 14-Aug-12 11:35:48

Sympathy for your DS, Annobel. My Spanish DiL is still without work, but is a bit more cheerful, having accepted that there just are no jobs at the moment where they live in Spain. DS is still rushed off his feet with extra work as an English teacher, so they are OK as a family, but it is hard.

Ella46 Tue 14-Aug-12 12:06:09

gracesmum sunshine glad it went well.

glassortwo Tue 14-Aug-12 12:08:27
