Happy to log on after a short break in London. I've missed you all. Have masses to catch up on. Will need to return later to tell you all about our trip. For all the pain of the journey down, it was a marvellous treat and we've returned with some sooper memories.

My GD insists she is almost 7 too. DH always tells people that I am the same age as him when in fact I am 18 months younger and it annoys the hell out of me.

GoldenGran Tue 07-Aug-12 10:48:08

Oh kitty age is a bit of a sensitive subject to somegrin A friend of mine planned a surprise 40th birthday party for his wife, complete with age related balloons and banners, and it was only after we had all gone she told him he had got it wrong, she had just turned 39.blush My Granddaughter always adds the three quarters to her age, she is 6, it is very important to her, to be nearer 7 than 6. What age do you think that goes into reverse?

kittylester Tue 07-Aug-12 10:34:10

Apologising to my husband for telling people he is 68 today when he is only 67 blush Funny how children want to be a year older and he doesn't! grin

Had a great day with DS2 swimming (well a Family Fun Session lasting 2hours!!) then lunch in Waitrose with said GS; picked up GS1 and took them strawberry picking...........taught GS 1 knockout whist (he invented new rule using jokers!) then DD2 returned and I sat down. Splendid, but enjoying a Pimm's now as DD & OH out for a meal and I'm here for a sleepover! smile plus exhausted emiticon!

£70 for school shoes - wait a moment while I pick myself up off the floor!!!

Sorry to hear Kitty that a wee runt of a grey puppy is knocking at the door - don't let him in!!

I have picked myself up from the weeping heap who was unable to cope with Dartington and am getting in as much rest as I can. But today I went over to bail out my poor sleep-deprived daughter by taking one of the children off her hands for the morning. She is like a zombie - her OH is away for the summer and she is coping on her own with a 9 month-old who simply doesn't do sleeping at night and a highly intelligent 3.5 year-old who is scared of his own shadow and wakes with nightmares - so not much sleeping going on over there!

jeni Mon 06-Aug-12 17:36:36

I always said that children are an expensive hobby.

Bags Mon 06-Aug-12 17:33:24

Spending money on DD!! £70 on new orthodontic braces!! Another £70 on school shoes!! WHAT!!?? shock She's into women's sizes now, just, and y'know what? My "don't wreck your feet with daft shoes at least until they're fully grown and are your own responsibility rather than mine" lectures seems to have sunk in. Sigh.

Mind you, it's quite heartening to know that she sometimes actually listens and, more shock, agrees that I'm capable of talking sense! wink

Annobel Mon 06-Aug-12 16:45:30

I endorse everything when has said. A long, friendly lunch. Just what I needed. Looking forward to spending a week at Greatnan's apartment in the French Alps.

kittylester Mon 06-Aug-12 16:28:30

Feeling a bit glum sad. I said on another thread that I rarely have visits from the black dog or even the grey puppy - I think they heard!

I should be feeling really cheerful as we are empty nesters now (at the ripe old ages of 63 and 67!) and we have been looking forward to being on our own for such a long time. Anti-climax really I suppose - hey ho.

My husband is 68 tomorrow and I have no idea how that happened either, I'm sure he was about 35 last time I looked!

whenim64 Mon 06-Aug-12 16:01:22

Yes, green it's been such a treat, and not at all like meeting strangers for the first time, as we all know lots about each other already. I count myself lucky to have joined Gransnet smile

greenmossgiel Mon 06-Aug-12 15:55:26

When - aren't we all lucky to have met on here! smile

whenim64 Mon 06-Aug-12 15:40:36

Been having a long, chatty lunch with Greatnan, her sister, and Annobel, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Lovely, friendly women and the time just flew. I'm enjoying these little Gransnet get-togethers, looking forward to the next time. smile

Today we`ve been on to the garage, they MAY do the car today, but they`re quite busy, but otherwise they`ll do it tomorrow. So hopefully we`ll get off on Wednesday, don`t know where to, can`t actually look into sites till we know when we can go. Reading all your weather reports, it does seem fortuitous that we`re not up there, but I`m still disappointed.

harrigran Mon 06-Aug-12 14:46:53

We have had another very heavy shower with thunder, I have been running round the house closing windows.

crimson Mon 06-Aug-12 13:05:56

..trying very hard to stay awake at work as I stayed up till 2.30 watching a film on Ch4 that I missed at the cinema and very much wanted to see [35 Shots of Rum].

gracesmum Mon 06-Aug-12 12:55:03

green (and others) you have just beaten me to saying exactly the same thing!
How disappointing for you though number - hope it is sorted soon for you.
Today I have been practising wearing my wedding shoes round the house, thereby setting a new standard in posh for doing the ironing!smile

greenmossgiel Mon 06-Aug-12 09:57:02

number, it's a blessing in disguise that you didn't get away, I'm sure. Like everyone has said, the weather has been awful again up north. Saw that Jedburgh was completely flooded yesterday - and I know that's not where you were staying, but knowing you, you'd have been out and about, driving. Every cloud has a silver lining.....or a million gallons of water, more like! grin

glassortwo Mon 06-Aug-12 08:12:22

number the forecast is rotten up here and some people were flooded out last night, a section of dual carriageway in Town was also flooded... I cant understand when a driver sees a large amount of water they continue to drive into it, let alone the bus drivers carrying passengers, its not as if they go around a corner and find themselves in deep water confused

Oldgreymare Mon 06-Aug-12 08:07:57

Fingers crossed indeed Ariadne.
number such bad luck with the car but I think harrigrancould have a point, they were towing cars ONTO the site at the Isle of White Festival ( let alone OFF!).
Torrential rain and thundery showers here yesterday, luckily the stall holders had an assortment of tents and gazebos. So many puddles my trousers were wet to the knee! I bought yet another cookbook (reduced, of course!)

Ariadne Mon 06-Aug-12 06:41:47

My two little DGs are still fast asleep, as is DH, so I am having a little quiet time with my first cup of coffee. The conservatory is a Polly Pocket shrine, and there's a huge GB flag draped over the sofa.

This could be the last time they come to this house...(fingers still firmly crossed!)

Gally Mon 06-Aug-12 05:38:50

Oh number sad. Hope you get the problem fixed soon.
Bags and Green welcome home from your happy hols!
Today I have been on 'Bonds' shopping spree. I have a list as long as my arm for all things Bonds to take home for various daughters and friends and BigW (Woolworths to you and me) and Best & Less have them in the sale, so I am well pleased. (Bonds for the uninitiated, produce wonderful underwear for adults and great baby clothes - all a bit whacky). The sun is out and I have been washing the boys' bedding and airing their dooners (duvetssmile) so I feel I have achieved quite a lot today. Now time to sit in the sun with my kindle.

harrigran Sun 05-Aug-12 22:55:20

Might be a blessing in disguise number the weather is dreadful up north. We had hailstones the size of golf balls this afternoon, I was really concerned about damage to the car. We have flooding again and the forecast is the same for tomorrow.

Ella46 Sun 05-Aug-12 22:05:21

number that's such a shame, I hope you can manage something in order to have a break cupcake

glassortwo Sun 05-Aug-12 21:51:49

number what a shame, I hope you manage to get a few days break closer to home. I was looking forward to meeting you for a coffee, never mind we will manage it one of these days. sad

numberplease Sun 05-Aug-12 21:23:57

We`ll get something sorted, I`m sure, just as soon as the car`s done. Poor Pepper`s at the cattery, I hated leaving him on Friday evening, but don`t want to fetch him home only to take him back in a day or two, but I don`t half miss him. sad
