Reading on another thread a few of us seem to have the same worry, how do we let our friends on Gransnet know of our demise, does anyone have any good ideas on how to get around this?

I`d love it if it could be at a location that`s fairly central, can`t afford train fare for too long a distance.

GNHQ did say they will watch this possibility with interest. There is also the possibly of Skype meetings.(see Skype thread)

I would love to have a GN get-together! I don't drive now, though, but am close to a rail link - (Gally's close by, too). Also one of my other friends 'lurks' on GN, but doesn't post. She may also be very interested.

I would be up for a GN get together, as long as I enough notice to give DD dates so she can book time off work.

Skype is just so easy! Just google skype and then follow the instructions. I use it all the time with DS2 and Dil2 who live in NL and sometimes DS3 & fiancee join in as well. It wouldn't work for a big GN confernece call though as everyone would be speaking at once!!!

I would be up for a big GN get together although conference sounds a bit like hard work to organise for someone as they would have to decide on subjects, speakers etc. What about a 'big lunch' somewhere central with a block booking at a hotel for those who wanted to stay over and continue the event? Somewhere with good road and rail links perhaps? Are there many GNs who don't drive?

I'm just floating ideas,GNHQ have said they'll keep an eye on the new thread and see what they can do to 'facillitate' our plans!

Yes, they're still working on the crescent moon! grin

j04 Fri 06-Jul-12 09:11:52

I think you might be sticking your neck out in asking for help from Tech. grin

j04 Fri 06-Jul-12 09:11:07

jeni do you think GN actually get that much advertising? Perhaps just enough to keep the site going? I don't know.

Not sure Saga would be interested. They have go their own website.

The Christmas singalong used web cam and telephone linked by BT I think.

I do 'hangout' conference calls with my sons - but it is iGoogle, not skype. It's better. Still use skype as a back up though. Useful to have more than one means of video calls, in case one 'drops' - as they are want to do!

It has improved I gather,

I do think we need some help from tech.

I do think a GN sponsored conference is a good, idea.

It could be partially funded by advertising!

After all. We are the spenders.

GN might look to people like saga to help with costs?

phoenix is this within your sphere?

Ella46 Thu 05-Jul-12 22:23:27

I did a skype conference call last Christmas with my family, but I don't think we could see all of us ,although we could all talk. Not tried since confused

jeni Thu 05-Jul-12 22:18:33

You have to have a skype ID . when you've got it. I think I can then Skype you so long as I know your Skype user name!
You will have to pm it it to me!

Anagram Thu 05-Jul-12 21:24:54

Anagram Thu 05-Jul-12 21:24:35

What do you mean, 'Look at it!' jeni?

I have BY broadband, but don't know anything about skype....confused

jeni Thu 05-Jul-12 21:19:55

My dd reckons we could both see and talk to her brother at the same time.
bags husband is I think tech minded, or perhaps somebody else is?
Would someone, not me! Like to .
Actually dd has just rung and is going to email me instructions this weekend on how to conference Skype!

Get back to you all later on this

Annobel Thu 05-Jul-12 20:51:05

I think you can hear more than one caller on Skype, don't know how the visuals would work though!

jeni Thu 05-Jul-12 20:45:32

Mne is free with my BT broadband, definitely one to one. Dd reckons can do with other people on conference. Haven't worked out how to do that yet.
