Reading on another thread a few of us seem to have the same worry, how do we let our friends on Gransnet know of our demise, does anyone have any good ideas on how to get around this?

Green I am between glass and absent

I'm on the rail line to London, but it's gone expensive.....

AlieOxon Sat 07-Jul-12 11:41:15

I thought we'd lost the OP!
I want to say, re relatives letting people know, that I copied the two poems from another thread, thinking that they could be a message....and then added my username and password for Gransnet - I will add others when I think of them - printed them and they are in my secret drawer, with my will and other things.
Only my daughter and my executor know where it is.

Even nearer to London.

petallus Sat 07-Jul-12 11:06:17

I'm about 40 miles away from Oxfordshire.

Getting back to the OP, I'm not planning to fall off for ages yet. Took my blood pressure this morning 115/58!

Maybe some localised meetings, to start off with? I think a HUGE meeting would overwhelm some members - me included!

What we need is for Tech to sort out a map with locations pinpointed where everyone lives, then we could see....a bit like when you are looking for somewhere to stay on hotel sites.

Thanks, Geraldine! Be prepared for lots of daft questions and requests coming your way! grin

It all sounds great. I suppose we've had a go at something similar to a Skype conference with the Christmas carol. I seem to remember tech telling us at the time that Skype had an upper limit of about 25 people, but that might be OK... depends how many people want to be involved. If the preference is to meet up offline we'd love to be involved. We'll be watching tomorrow's thread (of course) and we'll do everything we possibly can to help.

GREAT!

greenmossgiel Fri 06-Jul-12 21:20:02

I'll put a thread up, then? See where we go from there? smile

AlieOxon Fri 06-Jul-12 20:48:31

How about Oxfordshire, where do you count that as? (I never can tell what forecast to look at!)

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 20:06:34

iC in charge. In other words
Organise!.
I'll help, but because I still work, don't have enough time to do it!

What we need to do is
1 open a new thread where all interested can sign
2 establish where everyone lives
3 Get GNHQ involved
4 decide what sort of meeting we want (just a lunch, a weekend, lectures?)

gracesmum Fri 06-Jul-12 19:57:58

I will personally come back from wherever and HAUNT YOU so you'll know!

greenmossgiel Fri 06-Jul-12 18:47:22

Where are you, Grandmanorm?

Grandmanorm Fri 06-Jul-12 18:42:55

Could I come please. I live just south of Perth. I don't comment too much, although I often type stuff, reread it then wipe it!!
I love Gransnet. Oh I have Skype but it isn't too good on my laptop.

greenmossgiel Fri 06-Jul-12 18:38:39

Don't know what IC means, jeni confused! And of course, there are a LOT down in the south! smile

Butternut Fri 06-Jul-12 18:36:38

Give enough notice for me to get across the Channel!

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 18:31:52

That should be in the south!

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 18:30:55

There's a lot of us southwest as well!

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 18:30:10

Great green looks like you're IC.
(GNHQ did say they'd help if possible)

glassortwo Fri 06-Jul-12 18:27:56

If we know in advance you can pick train tickets up at a reasonable cost, the rail companies usually release the special offers in 3 month blocks.

greenmossgiel Fri 06-Jul-12 18:27:25

Perhaps we should figure out how many would like to meet, and then choose a location that works out for us all? I'm in Fife, as is Gally with Elegran in Edinburgh. *Soop is Argyll (Kintyre) as is Bags(Argyll). em, should she want to come, is in Dundee, I think? Glass is further south, in Newcastle, and I think Absent is in Darlington? Then, we have the GN's in the Liverpool area. Maybe a little bit further north than Birmingham for a venue, perhaps?

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 17:56:50

Well Birmingham is central lots of hotels
