What do you call 2012?

I say 'two thousand and twelve' but some TV presenters say 'Twenty twelve' which is obviously quicker. Funny, I wouldn't have thought of saying anything but 'nineteen ninety nine' so I am not being consistent. (Nothing new there!)

I'm with you greatnan, 'twenty twelve' sounds good, but I can never bring myself to use it, not logical I know!

I say twenty twelve. I was saying two thousand and... until this year, but now we're at twelve, twenty something sounds better (to me). Doesn't bother me what other people say.

Two thousand and twelve. Twenty twelve sounds odd to me!

Twenty twelve.

Hunt Tue 24-Jul-12 09:22:13

Twenty twelve sounds mellifluous, it trips off the tongue. I think it is the repetition of the 'tw'. It's twenty twelve for me.

Daisyanswerdo Tue 24-Jul-12 09:26:41

How would you say 'the 1914 - 18 war'?

Nonu Tue 24-Jul-12 09:32:57

harrigran Tue 24-Jul-12 10:38:15

Two thousand and twelve.

harrigran Tue 24-Jul-12 10:38:37

First world war.

kittylester Tue 24-Jul-12 10:45:30

Twenty, twelve and 14/18 war or WW1. There is no reason to be consistent at all and I also think 'twenty twelve' is mellifluous, as is 'mellifluous' now I think of it! smile

Anagram Tue 24-Jul-12 10:49:04

I think next year I may change. Twenty thirteen sounds good....!
