My family loved the experience today, but did get roasted!

Congratulations to all the olympians, medal winners or not, you are the best! Congratulations also to their families for all the sacrifice that has gone into the achievement of making it to the olympics. I do hope it inspires people to put away their computer games and get out and take part. The computer games can come back out later smile flag 2Cx

And a gold for Ireland in the womens boxing, well done Katie Taylor!

JessM Thu 09-Aug-12 17:56:12

Have to say, glad my morning at the Olympics was not this one. Decathlon (minus our chap, out with injury yesterday) Women's high jump - no brit and the favourite won.
Only real excitement was the 4x400 heats - full of thrills and spills as usual. And our boys got through. As did the RSA inc Pistorius due to a foul.

Carl Hester on Uthopia I thought superb.

Funding is vital. Good decisions made that money would be focussed on certain sports and not spread evenly.
And now we have another velodrome!

Fantastic Nicola Adams first woman to win in Boxing ever and a Gold at that even though I dislike boxing it is such a great achievement for her.Keep those Golds coming GB

Another gold in boxing, Nicola Adams!

Grannylin Thu 09-Aug-12 16:43:13

Wow!

Grannylin Thu 09-Aug-12 16:41:02

...but then again, the boxing is looking pretty good!

Annobel Thu 09-Aug-12 16:39:25

Cycling set the pattern, gracesmum. The Velodrome built in Manchester for the Commonwealth Games ten years ago was such a huge asset.

gracesmum Thu 09-Aug-12 16:38:39

general - I can spell really - jusst can't type!

gracesmum Thu 09-Aug-12 16:37:08

I think that what we are seeing (in gerneral, not just equestrianism) is what many other countries have been doing for years - investing in their athletes and sporting facilities. What a difference it has made and fingers crossed it doesn't all fizzle out when the the fat lady has sung and it is all over.

Grannylin Thu 09-Aug-12 16:35:29

Know nothing about horses!i didn't even know they could do that-it was just exquisite.Don't think I can face the boxing after that, the sun calls smile

crimson Thu 09-Aug-12 16:35:17

Even grown men cry at race meetings, Annobel. It's because horses give their all for us; always have done and always will.

Am considering going to see The Spanish Riding School at the NEC. I've never actually wanted to see them before but this has whet my appetite. A few years ago a friend told me that Parsifal was better than Totilas which is why I really feared him today; I can't phone her to find out as, once she starts talking dressage, I'll be on the phone for hours..and now Valegro is better than Parsifal. And, again, it's thanks to Lottery funding.

Annobel Thu 09-Aug-12 16:29:14

What a lachrymose crowd you are, you horsey people! grin

whitewave Thu 09-Aug-12 16:27:57

Dressage - Yet again I am in tears I have spent the past 2 weeks in tears beginning with the opening ceremony - I am getting really maudling in my old age but it has been so brilliant and something to treasure.

crimson Thu 09-Aug-12 16:25:16

Thought Carl Hesters music was better and Parsifal performed better but, thank goodness I'm not an Olympic judge and know nothing about dressage. Also good to hear that Charlotte is not a rich kid but somone with a talent that was picked up by the right people at the right time. I did get VERY emotional watching it.

nightowl Thu 09-Aug-12 16:14:25

I'm wondering whether, if I get back on a horse now, I could aim for Rio? What do you think, the first gransnetter to win an olympic medal? grin

gracesmum Thu 09-Aug-12 16:08:31

Fantastic!! DH and I in tears!!!smile

nightowl Thu 09-Aug-12 16:02:54

Fantastic fantastic achievement. I am in tears! I now have to go to work but on a high sunshine smile

Grannylin Thu 09-Aug-12 15:47:34

Wow again!

GadaboutGran Thu 09-Aug-12 15:44:25

Just back from a brilliant sunny morning at Eton Dorney, no travel or other problems. Not a GB gold medal in sight and only one GB rep who came 7th. It didn't matter - we were surrounded by Magyars who did well and swept us along on a tidal wave of enthusiasm. With my links to other nations I did rather well! Even better I TOUCHED GOLD. We stopped for lunch in Dorney Court Garden Centre & were invaded by the NZ team including their sculls Gold Medal winner, Joseph Sullivan - a lovely guy. Son too shy to ask for a photo so brazen grandma did and got to wear a Gold Medal.

Grannylin Thu 09-Aug-12 15:37:20

Yes, definitely wow!its making me cry!
