And now I see that Ben Ainslie has his fourth gold medal - an Olympian if ever there was one.

merlotgran Sun 05-Aug-12 16:29:27

Fantastic result. He deserves it grin flag

Andy! Confirmed as a Great Scot. Now I have to play every point of the mixed doubles too!

Annobel Sun 05-Aug-12 15:09:45

Bucketing with rain here and thunder echoing in the distance. Great excuse (as if I needed one) to watch Andy and Roger. Keep it up, Andy!

JO4 Sun 05-Aug-12 11:50:16

Shame about the rain. Keep the marathon runners cool though. smile

Love the jumps for the horses. All the London landmarks!

Interesting that Heather and Helen were our first female rowing gold medallists and then two more crews joined the party! So three of our four rowing gold medals this time have been won by women. That redresses the balance very nicely.

That's just what I was thinking, glass. Have you just seen the piece that Clare Balding did about women and the Olympics? Fascinating stuff. I got interested in sport a long time ago. I alway thought that, to do well at sport you had to be physically better than everyone else; someone who did a lot of show jumping told me that most of it was in the mind; self belief and all that. It changed the whole way that I viewed sport and I've been fascinated by it ever since. Have been watching the interview with all of the rowers just now [and blubbing again] and heard what one of them said, that, when she started rowing with the other lady it's as if the boat went faster but with them using less energy to do so. I'd been thinking all week that the younger of the two was what had made the difference between silver and gold; make the boat sing and all that. Emotionally I don't think I can stand much more! C'mon Andy....

I didnt expect to be drawn into the Olympics as I have, in previous years I have dipped in and out only when something caught my interest, this time I am watching everything!!
I think the BBC coverage has been fantastic all the Commentators have given the games a personal feel and have made it our games. flag

I so loved it when Mo Farah's young daughter couldn't contain herself from rushing out to her dad. She looked so proud and so excited! flag

All this running and jumping is exhausting and exhilarating. So proud of Team GB. Let's hope It's Super Sunday!!

It is terribly tiring isn't it! And, I'm piling on the pounds because I keep picking at food while I'm watching sad.

yogagran Sat 04-Aug-12 23:01:59

What an amazing day - I feel shattered! Watching Jessica Ennis receiving the gold medal was so emotional. Wonderful performances from all our team - well done everyone

vegasmags Sat 04-Aug-12 22:46:53

Off to bed now to recuperate after a brilliant, but emotionally draining day! When I think I can get this exhausted just watching our marvellous athletes ... The tennis yesterday was riveting (sandwiches again for tea, I'm afraid) and now it's tennis again tomorrow. I will definitely have to get in training to watch the next Olympics, when I'll be 4 years older.

Sorry - posted the Scots National Anthem verse on the wrong thread. Blame Mo!

merlotgran Sat 04-Aug-12 22:15:25

We never win penalty shoot outs sad

Simply superb athleticism today!

jeni Sat 04-Aug-12 22:10:37

How many medals now please?

merlotgran Sat 04-Aug-12 22:10:36

My twelve year old GS has just texted me, 'Three golds in an hour, six in a day, your move Korea!' grin flag [South Korean flag emoticon]

NfkDumpling Sat 04-Aug-12 22:10:04

Oh and I really agree about the Great Britain thing - much as I like and miss being part of Great Britain we've been in the United Kingdom as far as the rest of the world is concerned for some years now. It should be Team UK.

NfkDumpling Sat 04-Aug-12 22:07:23

Just looked for the words of God save the Queen on Wiki and there is an alternative for the Scots -

God bless the prince, I pray,
God bless the prince, I pray,
Charlie I mean;
That Scotland we may see
Freed from vile Presbyt'ry,
Both George and his Feckie,
Ever so, Amen.

So if they're that picky ........ (don't know why they complain anyway - James 1 was Scots)

Annobel Sat 04-Aug-12 22:01:37

Could that be a first, Jess?

JessM Sat 04-Aug-12 21:59:48

Best GB athletics night in history. And in London. Words fail me.

Ariadne Sat 04-Aug-12 21:56:14

Am exhausted! What a night! flag flag flag
