Boris Johnson

By rights I should hate Boris Johnson. He's everything I despise about our society. Privileged by accident of birth, Eton educated, rich from family wealth rather than person effort, Tory, totally unable to imagine life as an ordinary person....the list is endless. But then Boris opens his mouth and the most bizarre words come out. He makes me laugh and how can I not like a man who makes me laugh? How can you not laugh when a politician (people who normally watch every word they say) comes out with,

'As I write these words there are semi-naked women playing beach volleyball in the middle of the Horse Guards Parade immortalised by Canaletto. They are glistening like wet otters and the water is plashing off the brims of the spectators' sou'westers. The whole thing is magnificent and bonkers.'

I can't help it. I love Boris.

Daniel Craig does it for me, especially in those cute swimming trunks! wink

JO4 Thu 02-Aug-12 22:05:12

I hope no one has already said that down the thread. hmm

JO4 Thu 02-Aug-12 22:04:38

I read that David cameron said "If any other politician anywhere in the world got stuck on a zipwire it would be a disaster, when it's Boris Johnson, its an absolute triumph!" smile

Anagram Thu 02-Aug-12 21:56:49

Not George Lazenby, that's for sure...hmm

Annobel Thu 02-Aug-12 21:28:09

Me too, WW but which one?

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 21:22:35

Blimey I'd rather have a stiff-assed James Bond then Boris any day of the week

nanasam Thu 02-Aug-12 21:20:16

That was a quote from Goldeneye, referring to James Bond!

Anagram Thu 02-Aug-12 21:15:02

grin - 'stiff-assed?' That's a new one on me...

nanasam Thu 02-Aug-12 21:11:54

I love his eccentricity. It's about time the world stopped looking on us as "stiff-assed Brits" and appreciated what a great sense of humour we have. Let's all be bonkers!

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 20:10:10

Oh yes!(blush) thanks I get worse as I get older used to be a good speller!

Annobel Thu 02-Aug-12 20:08:18

We know what you mean, WW, but I think it's 'gelding'.

Anagram Thu 02-Aug-12 20:07:52

POGS - I agree! grin

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 20:07:04

actually mishap guelding our Boris might put his brains where they belong!

(did I spell guelding right?)

POGS Thu 02-Aug-12 20:05:15

I wish it was Ed Balls.

Mishap Thu 02-Aug-12 17:10:58

That harness looked as though it might slice his b***s off - what a shame!

JO4 Thu 02-Aug-12 11:55:24

bakergran I didn't realise you had already posted a link to the zipwire story. Sorry about that. smile

Annobel Thu 02-Aug-12 11:08:41

I can think of a few who should be left dangling: Gove springs to mind and Lansley.

JessM Thu 02-Aug-12 10:54:08

oh how i wish it had been cameron or osborne dangling there. And can you imagine how uncomfortable Gordon would have been.

Nonu Thu 02-Aug-12 10:40:31

As I said on an earlier post , he has invited Murdoch to Olympics , I find that interesting ?

Anagram Wed 01-Aug-12 21:26:42

He's a bit like a slightly dodgy uncle, isn't he? The kids all love him because he's funny and loud, and takes them to the funfair, but the grown-ups know he lives by his wits and hasn't had a proper job in years!

GadaboutGran Wed 01-Aug-12 21:01:27

Like Bakergran, my daughter saw him on the zipwire too in Victoria Park - but too far away to give him an earful about the food rip-off there. Her kids' picnic & water were confiscated and the only food on offer was burgers and chips at £6 a time. Didn't think the rules for the Olympic Park would extend to a public park event.
I think Boris is true to himself & adds much needed colour to the cloned politicians we have nowadays but I think he's also a highly intelligent buffoon who I'm not sure I'd trust to run the show.

Annobel Wed 01-Aug-12 20:43:44

Ah well, whitewave, that information simply confirms my opinion of him. His silliness is in fact a kind of arrogance.

whitewave Wed 01-Aug-12 20:28:05

The silly man has invited the Murdochs as his guest at the olympics

POGS Wed 01-Aug-12 20:20:37

Did anyone see him on the B.B.C. series 'Who do you think you are'. Absolutely fascinating family history. So much to tell, try and watch it if it is ever repeated. It was one of the best of the series.

Nonu Wed 01-Aug-12 18:06:48

Picked up on second one , you are right , SAL
