The God of Racing is very cruel, is he not? Gives you one of the greatest racehorses ever and terrible illness at the same time. Have to say that, after what happened to Veiled earlier today I couldn't relax until he got home safe. And, all thanks to Godolphin for at least making a race of it. I still don't get the goose bumps that I used to get when Sea the Stars ran but I'd love to be at York for the Juddmonte. Annoyingly I'm too far oop north to go but a friend of mine will be there; just wondering if there's any way we could drive down just for the day. His house is just the other side of the racetrack and we could stay there if we wanted to. I missed Sea the Stars at York and have regretted it ever since.

Odds of 1-20! According to 'The Grauniad', he may run 3 more times - York, France and Ascot before retiring from racing. He is a very exciting horse but my greatest racing excitement was when I backed Last Suspect to win the Grand National at 50-1. My wife and I were cheering so loudly the kids thought we were having an argument. The bookie wouldn't take my £2 ew so I had to push the boat out and bet £5 ew (plus 10% tax in those days). It must have been the only time a bookie did me a favour!

I backed Sublimity at 80/1 ante post when he won the Champion Hurdle; was at Cheltenham that day [we always go on the Tuesday] and couldn't watch the end of the race. I backed Mon Mome the year he won the National at 100/1 but, unfortunately had backed him ante post at 33/1. I'm still searching for the elusive 100/1 winner sad. The National used to be a good race for me, betting wise, but it's become very difficult of late. I was overjoyed to see 'Nipper' win this year but can't watch the race because of what happened to Pete and Synchronised. I thought Frankel was only racing twice more; York and Ascot..hadn't heard anything about France. I was convinced that Frankel would go to the Breeders Cup this year, with him being named after an American trainer and all that, so was surprised when they ruled it out.
