I've always thought, mistakenly probably, that I looked quite young. Ok I am now 64, have white hair and a certain amount of wrinkles, but I am very young in thought and deed and I don't dress in crimplene or wear pearls and a twin-set.... However, I got on a Sydney bus yesterday and the driver asked if I had a concession card. OMG shock; you could have blown me down with a feather. I thought ' yes, I am old(er) and obviously he saw me as 'old' and now I've got to face up to it'. Delusions of everlasting youth blew out of the window and over Sydney Harbour Bridge. When and how did the 'age' thing hit you?

Well you are all doing better than me. It was about 35 years ago when I was getting out the bath and my son said 'Mummy you look better with clothes on'.

Today I did my first ever dance class at a gym and it was hard and fast. Afterwards I was talking to the teach and she wouldn't believe I was 66. OK I expect they teach them to butter up the clients but I choose to believe she meant every word! grin

I did once feel very flattered when asked to show my Senior Railcard - note, I said once - it hasn't happened again. As for being offered seats on buses or trains - I accept happily - why the heck should I stand?

In my early 60s I was waiting to cross the road. When the traffic had passed a young lad (10 or 11) marched into the middle of the road, held up his hand and shouted S-T-O-P - LET THE OLD LADY CROSS!!!! I looked round to see who he meant, then it I realised he meant ME!!!

No they dont nag I try to convince myself thats what they use grin

Anagram Thu 16-Aug-12 16:39:15

Do they? Is that the only reason I look fat larger than I think I am in them? [hopeful emoticon]

glassortwo Thu 16-Aug-12 16:36:48

I want to know why all shops use convex glass in their shop front hmm I am sure concave glass and I would look thinner better.

Anagram Thu 16-Aug-12 16:08:04

What about those shops where you can see yourself walking in on camera? shock Scary! (and I don't mean the security aspect!)

Annika Thu 16-Aug-12 16:07:05

When I was travelling on Arriva Trains I brought a ticket via the 'over 55 club' and I wasn't asked for ID shock
Also when I saw my GP about my knee he said somthing along the lines of....... 'when you get to your age things start to wear out ' !!!!!!
AND when I look in the mirror I see (not my mum) my dad looking back at me. Not only am I getting old(er) I am starting to look like a man shock

Ella46 Thu 16-Aug-12 15:42:24

Grannyegg that shop window lady is ME! grin

I had to stop looking at window reflections as it was too depressing!

Anagram Thu 16-Aug-12 15:40:23

I'm sure you can be strict when you have to be, jeni! grin

jeni Thu 16-Aug-12 15:37:24

Looked in mirror yesterday and saw my gran! A very strict old lady!

janthea Thu 16-Aug-12 15:05:58

Ella46 I LOVE YOU!! Thank you grin

soop Thu 16-Aug-12 15:01:41

My bones and wrinkles and saggy bits confirm that I am ageing. My spirit continues to tell me otherwise. On a not-so-good day, I would like to have a more youthful body, but on an upbeat day, given a choice, my spirit tells me that I'm happier now, [in spite of the saggy bits] than I ever was...grin

Zengran Thu 16-Aug-12 11:33:42

Absent good point! grin

I think you're all looking at this the wrong way round – like a reverse telescope. Gally, if you look 64, it's not a problem – you are what 64 looks like AND IT'S NOT OLD (and clearly quite lovely looking at your photographs). JessM surely you don't actually want builders whistling at you – BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU OLD. Zengran So people think you are old enough to have a son that age DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU ARE OLD. Stop worrying yourselves about being old. Think 60 is the new 40 and so on. smile

Grannyeggs Thu 16-Aug-12 11:22:39

Something has happened to my typing today, disregard that last post, but now I come to think about it, I now feel very old!

Grannyeggs Thu 16-Aug-12 11:20:17

When I see someone who is quite

Grannyeggs Thu 16-Aug-12 11:13:17

When I look at a reflection in a shop window and it quite clearly is someone fatter and older than me looking back at me.

Zengran Thu 16-Aug-12 10:59:44

When I look in the mirror and see my mother! Also when telling people the ages of my children, they no longer say, "Surely you are not old enough to have a son that age!". smile

Hankipanki Thu 16-Aug-12 10:48:13

Yesterday, when my grandaughter took a photograph of me and I saw my gran.

Ella46 Thu 16-Aug-12 10:23:46

Janthea Just looked at your photo and you certainly don't look old, or anything like your age [sycophantic sickly emoticon] grin

janthea Thu 16-Aug-12 09:48:19

When I see pictures of myself, I'm horrified that I'm 'old' I feel just the same as I have for many years (not saying much). I'm lucky that I don't have grey hair yet (good genes, not dye) and I like fashion. grin

tanith Thu 16-Aug-12 08:34:15

When I saw the awful picture I'd used on my Freedom Pass, why oh why did I not go back and get another one taken its just horrible.

Annobel Thu 16-Aug-12 08:23:46

When a young man at a ticket office for the Paris Bateaubus asked me if I was retraitée. At the time my hair was still blonde and I was just under sixty. Like a fool, I said 'non' and missed out on a concessionary fare.
