I'm sixty on Sunday, and have just booked a flying lesson for Tueday. I'm beyond excited!!

Sook Wed 22-Aug-12 14:56:57

I'm in awe of all you brave ladies as I am a totally wimp. I had two nasty experiences riding Big Dippers in the 60s and 70s. Riding the Tea Cups at Alton Towers is adventurous for me.

Meant to say, tingaloo, have a great time and please tell us all about it. Happy birthday. flowers

vampirequeen Wed 22-Aug-12 14:33:00

Wow well done. Have a lovely time.

Annobel Wed 22-Aug-12 14:17:12

My family dragged me kicking and screaming onto the Corkscrew (now discarded as not being scary enough) at Alton Towers. When I got off, my heartbeat had slowed right down, my lips were blue. I was in shock. Don't think a flying lesson would be anything like as terrifying.

What a fab way to celebrate I wish I had the nerve to do it,nearest was the corkscrew ride at one of the european theme parks I thought my skin was peeling off my face at the time hmmupside down, inside out, every which way frighening worst 3 mins of my life.

soop Wed 22-Aug-12 11:14:53

Hearty congratulations tingaloo whoopie....

Annobel Wed 22-Aug-12 11:08:38

GA, that picture made my stomach turn upside down! But I've always wanted to learn to fly. I shall ask for that as an 80th birthday present - only just over 8 years to go. grin Just call me Biggles.

AlisonMA Wed 22-Aug-12 10:58:50

So good to hear tingaloo, what next?

Bags Wed 22-Aug-12 05:49:08

That's great, tingaloo! What a wonderful way to celebrate reaching sixty. smile

Gally Wed 22-Aug-12 01:23:51

GA Do you ever sleep? You are always the last poster in the wee small hours and very often I 'see' you at about 5 am!! shock
Tingaloo much admiration and belated happy birthday. I can fly in a large tin can without any problem but small tin cans worry me a bit as do balloons, bungee jumping, small lifts, narrow cliff paths .....etc. I just read that a nearly 63 year old veteran long distance swimmer has given up on her final attempt to swim from Cuba to the U.S. through shark infested waters. There are some game Grans about but I fear (no pun attached) that I am a wimp and will keep my feet firmly on terra firma whenever possible.

Only just seen this tingaloo - what an exciting thing to do, congratulations. I must say that I'm afraid of heights, but I push through the fear (usually in tears) and do stuff anyway. So I've climbed mountains, stepped out on the priekestolen, abseiled, been up in a hot air balloon - and yes, I've been on my fair share of zip wires Bags. grin

Congratulations, tingaloo! smile

Greatnan Tue 21-Aug-12 22:47:26

Well done - you are obviously young at heart!

tingaloo Tue 21-Aug-12 22:37:44

Well, I've done it. I'm a flying granny!! It was such fun. I didn't quite loop the loop, but I banked and went up and down. I wish I could do it again tomorrow!!

granjura Fri 17-Aug-12 16:45:25

Enjoy. We did a parapenting twin jump a couple of years ago - OH, younger daughter and me, with 3 separate instructors. WOW - our daughter burst into tears as we came down to earth, and I thought she'd hurt herself, but she blubbered 'oh mum that was so wonderful'.

Were very lucky to do a balloon trip over the Serengeti when we went there for Oh's 60th, when I got a nice tax rebate. That was amazing.

Can't wait to hear how you get on.

I`ve always wanted to wing walk, everyone thinks I`m mad! Mind you, there`s no chance of it, the cost would be too prohibitive, shame though.

Ella46 Fri 17-Aug-12 16:15:18

Oooh Tingaloo good for you, and have a great birthday flowers

Bags Fri 17-Aug-12 15:04:55

Wheeeeeee! Oh well, next chance you get!

AlisonMA Fri 17-Aug-12 13:39:51

Bags wanted to do it from the top of Whistler but they said the whole thing took 2 1/2 hours and we had people waiting for us so didn't have the time. I think DH was secretly glad.

Bags Fri 17-Aug-12 13:32:40

Went on a zip wire back in March at a Cub Camp. Great fun and not scary at all, especially when compared with some of the other activities, such as jumping for an out of reach trapeze from a high tree.

Go zip, grans! It's fun!

AlisonMA Fri 17-Aug-12 13:18:02

tinga I don't think we went high enough for it to be cold but perhaps wear a sweater?

bakergran Fri 17-Aug-12 13:14:47

Just don't do a Boris Johnson if you're on a zipwire, tingaloo!

tingaloo Fri 17-Aug-12 13:03:01

I did a balloon ride a few years ago on holiday in Turkey. It was a fantastic experience, so peaceful when the gas canister was turned off, and we just floated above the amazing scenery. What did you wear for your flying lesson -was it chilly in the plane? I think a zip wire would be beyond the limits of my courage!!

soop Fri 17-Aug-12 12:56:29

tingaloo That's the spirit. Enjoy! flowers

AlisonMA Fri 17-Aug-12 12:55:50

Hi ting I did that a couple of years ago and it was brilliant but noisy. It made me add other exciting things to my bucket list like going up in a balloon, which I have now done and loved even more, and going on a zip-line which I haven't managed yet. I seem to get more courageous as I get older.
