My iPad is coded. Only I know the code.
DH's Macbookpro has an account on it for me, separate from his.
Our family iMac has separate accounts for each of us plus extra ones for visitors.

Simple and everyone has their privacy.

We have parental controls on DD3s account on the iMac so she can't browse just anywhere on the web, only where we give specific permission.

I'd have a fit if somebody used my laptop without asking. The GCs use it when they visit but they always ask first.

Perhaps a desktop is thought differently of than a laptop. More "family property". hmm

They all go on my 'puter when they're here. And they mess it up. hmm

I hate it if they see any Gransnet though. I always log out when DD1 is coming because she is a Mumsnetter, and I don't want her to know my name.

You are right it like looking at your mail , but I wasn"t sure if I was being OTT, now I know I wasn"t [wine or 2]

I think its rude to use your laptop with out asking first, after all you wouldn't expect anyone to use your moblie or landline phone with asking.
My GC will always ask if they can use my pc, or even the TV, they always ask first and they are children, you would expect grown ups to have some manners hmm

My GC were visiting last week and asked very politely if they might use my laptop. I know they are both competent computer users, so it wasn't a problem as long as they didn't fight over it!

I wouldn't expect someone to use my laptop without a prior arrangement.

And if I can justify buying myself an ipad no-one else will be allowed to use it under any circumstances.

Tanith , thank you , but the thing is because I was going in and out posting, didn"t occur , still I will know for next time won"t I ? smile

Must admit I usually log out of everywhere if I'm leaving my computer on standby for any length of time.. but I'd be annoyed too if it were to happen. Its a bit rude to use your laptop without asking , you're entitled to feel grumpy about it.

I"m really a a moaning old sausage , as I think the world of said SIL . blush

Nonu Sun 19-Aug-12 15:31:51

I would just like to pose a question ? my SIL was using my laptop last night without asking, but hey ! but then because it was on Grans. he was reading things which in itself is not important , but I feel ones laptop is private also he b------d up some of the things on it , it was put right so not a problem I would never in a million years just go on their laptop without sayso, on reflection this is not a question just a grumble . Ignore me grin
