Gransnetters - what are they like?

I am glad to say 'A total mish mash'.

Some find talking about sex a no no. Others laugh about it.
Some you might think are a harridan, then they go and make you laugh.
Some you think are a bit nasty, then they say something kind.

I love to read Lils Bar,although I am not funny enough to join in. I really like those on that thread because they are enjoying themselves and letting us all laugh with them.

Gransnetters are mainly female. In my short experience, they are friendly, caring and polite. They can be down to earth, not rude but certainly not prudish. They discuss more or less anything although (as a bloke) I would hesitate to venture into some threads. I've mentioned elsewhere that I think this forum is a bit special. People rant but mainly in a good tempered way. This may be because it is mainly female.

I know some gransnetters are extremely polite and kind - when I have been able to give some technical advice I have had several pms of thanks. This encourages me to continue trying to help where I think I can. So, thank you for the thank yous!

Same here, Greatnan. I've been able to help out a few gnetters privately and have come to regard them as friends. They know who they are. I know that if I needed help and advice, someone on these forums would come forward - such is the extent of expertise among our membership.

Some time last year we had a thread about our present or former jobs and careers. It was absolutely fascinating to read about the range of expertise and experience among Gransnetters and the modesty of some of the most talented and hard working was both impressive and humbling.

If a little "sample" from each of us could be harvested, refined, combined...we'd have the perfect Gran [which could be a tad boring.] As it is, we're perfectly fine, warts 'n' all. Best thing is, we're here for each other. There is no need for any individual to feel that his/her contribution counts for nothing. HELD HIGH! From ear to ear. A huge thank you to every member.

Lonely sometimes perhaps? If you've moved away and don't have the daily contact with friends that you once had, it's great to have a heated arguement intelligent discussion with your peers. Love the grandkids to bits but there's only so much conversation you can have with a one-year old and two x 2-year olds!

jeni do you really think I need a psychiatrist? I was only singing it - had I being doing the actions then perhaps ....

What I miss is the mental stimulation that comes in the work environment and chatting with friends face to face, glass to glass. I've only been posting on GN for a week or two but have really enjoyed the cut and thrust of the discussion threads, even when they get a bit heated.

Starting to recognise certain 'characters' who inhabit the forums too.
