Did we have a summer season?

Seem to remember back in May we had a week of sunny weather and the tv weather men saying it was going to be a long hot summer this year. Still waiting for a block of good weather sans rain. Yesterday noticed the leaves on the trees going yellow and the thermostat turned the heating on. Hello Autumn.

This afternoon I switched the fire on for a while. hmm

I thought, when I was in the bath today, we did have a summer. There were nasturtiums and marigolds in the garden. smile

Seems I was right about an OK summer. We're in the middle of a thunderstorm (with lightning and hail; fun! – got the washing in and DD got home before it started) and DD said "I've stopped expecting rain in Scotland, we've had such a good summer".

So there you go! smile

I still say just OK, fairly typical, changeable, nothing to complain about.

I like that.

I think the summer has been OK here. Nothing special; nothing awful. I've forgotten. Today was nice. Breezy. Not hot, not cold, not much rain. Fine for working outdoors and in. I'm content with that.

Ah no not the Orient Express but Great Rail Journeys to Tuscany it is a luxury trip though lots of dressing up drinking wine and eating in fancy restauants and a castle one night.

You've never seen what I can do with a paintbrush, Greatnan. It's not pretty!

Greatnan Tue 28-Aug-12 11:44:23

I have some railings on the balcony that need revarnishing, Anno!

annodomini Tue 28-Aug-12 11:20:41

Oh! There is bright light filtering through the trees this morning. Am waiting for the wooden steps in my garden to dry out so that I can treat them with Jeyes fluid to prevent the growth of slippery algae which makes them lethal for me every winter.

Me too! It will spread like wildfire.

Granny23 That rhyme great I hope you don't mind but I have put it on my FB page but I promise I will not take the credit for it grin

In terms of not needing coats, tights, central heating etc yes it was summer so that bit was OK. I usually like a light tan to replace my seasonal mauve extreemeties and I have that but wouldnt have it wasnt for a very windy golf course. I'm off to Italy next week for an extra special holiday (Great rail journey) a present from DH for a nasty birthday coming up after Xmas and then I shall settle down to it being Autumn and the run up to Xmas. the difficult bit for me is after Xmas - cannot stand January and February so will try to get a cheap winter sun break. Once we get into March and the things begin to grow I get more hopeful. At least I wont be on a diet (only maintenance) this year so if I want a dumpling or two I can have them.

AlisonMA Tue 28-Aug-12 09:29:43

I've just put my washing out and am not giving in to Autumn yet. As on another thread, my glass is half full and I plan to eat outside on Saturday when the whole family should be here. No, I'm not using the 'B' word yet but just thinking it.

Greatnan Tue 28-Aug-12 09:26:49

Well, do tell us what it was! Not a UFO?

baublesbanglesandb Tue 28-Aug-12 09:22:08

Panic over, authorities stand down, normal service resumed in the time it took me to get here.

baublesbanglesandb Tue 28-Aug-12 08:53:04

Jeni if that's the effect I could be tempted. Nfk & Greatnan I am a tad (ok more than a tad) envious but I don't begrudge you - enjoy. I'm off to work now and will thoroughly enjoy my short journey.

NfkDumpling Tue 28-Aug-12 08:48:02

I say this very quietly and could do with tiny writing too, but actually here, August hasn't been too bad. We've just had rather excitable weather. A lot of sun with periodic visits from Thor turning the hose on us followed by more sun. So can't grumble. (I love the rhyme too Granny23)

Greatnan Tue 28-Aug-12 08:47:34

I don't wish to incite envy, but the summer has been lovely here - another day of bright sunshine today. grin The forecast is good for next week, when Annobel arrives. It is not as hot as last week, but I prefer it to be around 21C for walking.

jeni Tue 28-Aug-12 08:35:40

Had you been smoking wacky baccy?

baublesbanglesandb Tue 28-Aug-12 07:37:52

Help, I dropped OH off at station as usual this morning and there is something very odd going on outside. The colour of the sky has changed from grey/black to blue and I was almost blinded by the light from a strange yellow sphere. Who should I report this to? Could it be a UFO?

Marelli Mon 27-Aug-12 22:35:22

Granny23 - I can picture you both sitting there quite cosily! smile

Sook Mon 27-Aug-12 21:48:15

Granny23 Love your rhyme smile
