Just returned from a holiday with my daughter, son-in-law and their children at a traditional old fashioned holiday camp. What a good time all the children had. There was an outdoor pool, tennis courts, crazy golf, soft play area, pitch and putt and lots more to do, all included. As the weather was good a lot of time was spent in the outside pool. What a revelation, no computers, no mobile phones just good old fashioned fun. Ages of grandchildren ranged from 6 to 13. None of them wanted to leave and all want to go back next year. One grandson wanted to know if the huts (the rooms we stayed in) could be bought. Met lots of families who have been going back for years and I am not surprised. Evening entertainment and food very good too.

Tattynan, we were at a holiday camp called Mill Rythe which is on Hayling Island, Hampshire.

When all the DGCs were small we used to have a big family get together every year. Haven holiday centre at Warmwell in Dorset was our favourite. The lodges we stayed in were lovely. I'd never been to a holiday camp before and DH didn't think he'd like it but we always had a ball. We joined in with all the entertainment, bingo, quizzes, Rory the Tiger, sing-songs, dancing etc. It was real Hi-de-Hi stuff and the children had a whale of a time and DH was delighted that he could get up early every morning and go fishing. I miss those family holidays. They all go abroad now and no longer want the big family get-togethers but I suppose all good things must come to an end.

Merlot gran it sounds just like the holiday we had. There were lots of large family parties with several generations and they all looked as they were having a great time especially the children. Everybody seemed to join in everything. My daughter and family have definitely decided they are going back next summer holidays for a week. We were a bit apprehensive about what it would be like before we went as this was our first time but it couldn't have been better.

We used to have a big family holiday every year at one holiday centre or another , Haven Sandy Bay was our all time favourite , the grownup grandchildren all still talk about those holidays of sun, sea and sand.. whenever we get together all the old stories get retold, and maybe before too long when great grandchildren appear on the scene we'll recreate some of those holidays for the little ones.. I do hope so . Wishful thinking on my part.. {smile]

We did get it wrong one year though. Because we were all due at a family wedding and thought we'd make a week of it, we booked into the nearest holiday camp which was Coombe Haven in Sussex. When we arrived DD1 shouted, 'Look at the lovely sand dunes'. Her DH replied, 'Put your glasses on, dear. That's a land fill site!' hmm
