Well i don't buy the ones that over dwell on celebrity gossip! But I wonder if there was a moratorium on celebrity gossip and a focus on showcasing people who did charitable / altruistic work if sales would drop very dramatically?

nanaej Maybe, we don't buy the papers?

She was a brave woman and risked a great deal to do what she did. There are so many unsung heroes in all parts of the world who make a real difference and our media is mostly full of people who party a lot and appear in the 'right' places.
Apparently the press think this is what 'we' want & what sells their papers /advertising space. Not sure how we go about saying it is not what we all want!

The Nobel Peace Prize is not worth the paper it is written on. When it was given to Henry Kissinger, someone said that they might just as well have given him the Nobel Prize for Physics. When this suggestion was queried, "But he knows nothing about physics," the original speaker just shrugged and rolled his eyes. She did receive a number of more meaningful awards.

I had a quick 'google' and it does say she was a Polish catholic who had always sympathised with Jews. If ever anyone deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, she did, but I think it went to politicians instead.

Whatever nationality, she was an extraordinarily fine human being.

You might be right, absent - the article I was sent says she knew what the fate of those in the ghetto was going to be because she was German.

Irena Sendler was an extraordinary woman of immense courage, love and integrity. I think she was Polish not German Greatnan.

There has been a film made about her - The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler. It was shown on TV recently but unfortunately I deleted it by mistake before I'd seen it hmm. Hopefully, one of the channels will repeat it soon.

Have just googled her. I had not heard of her before. You are right greatnan she was a remarkable woman, and so brave. Thank you for bringing her to my attention.

A friend has forwarded to me an e-mail about Irena Sandler, a German who saved 2,500 Jewish children from death in the Warsaw Ghetto. She was refused the Nobel Peace price. Has anybody heard about her?
