Awful murders near Annecy in the French Alps

We have often been in this area on holidays and I find it absolutely horrific to imagine this dreadful incident. It is a beautiful, peaceful region with little crime and now this slaughter of a family has desecrated that. What is the world coming to? Those two little girls, one now in a medically induced coma, the other terrified out of her 4 year old wits, will be damaged for life.

It must be near Greatnan too - she will be distressed I know.

Very pleased for you Nonu, but is this the right thread for your news update?

Nonu Fri 07-Sept-12 21:33:14

Let's leave out these suggestions about racism – whatever country we are talking about. The English are certainly not classed as a separate race and I suspect the French aren't either – but it doesn't matter because there is no scientific way to isolate races. It's an absurd concept. We are different nationalities just people and our hearts go out to those affected by this terrible crime and we'll all hope, I am sure, that the children will recover and cope.

Littlenellie - I am sure we all understood your post - you know more than anyone what this trauma will mean to the little girls. Let us hope they have a relative as good as you to look after them.
I hope we can return to the serious discussion of this tragedy.

kittylester Fri 07-Sept-12 20:15:22

That doesn't offend me Nonu and, in the circumstances, wouldn't it be appropriate to show respect to all concerned?

Nonu Fri 07-Sept-12 20:05:04

Don"t lets tooooo carried away with the French , lovely people I am sure , we were looked after nicely in the hotel in saint Severain , butn don"t they call us "roast Bif" or is that racist ????

Apparently police are looking for the brother of the man who was murdered. There has been argument about land in Spain and who should own it. It's not clear whether it's this person who has carried out the shootings or someone else.
Littlenellie, you didn't draw attention to your own situation, only to say that you could understand the trauma that the little girls would go through. An unbelievable nightmare that on-one could imagine. flowers

Littlenellie Fri 07-Sept-12 11:46:21

Thank youwhen In order to show I empathise I have to refer to my own situation and feel guilty about drawing attention to my own situation and sidetracking about me,thank you for recognising this xxxfor you too flowers

The flowers are to acknowledge how tragic events like this are bound to bring back such unhappy memories for you nellie. You have an understanding of what these little girls are going to need from now on. flowers

Littlenellie flowers So many innocent lives are damaged by violence .

nanaej Fri 07-Sept-12 10:19:54

Hopefully they will have a loving extended family who will be able to care for them.

Littlenellie Fri 07-Sept-12 10:19:09

Having had my own four year traumatised by the sudden violent death of her mum,and in the same place as a witness my heart goes out to this little girl and her sister for the difficult path her life will now take, and the families who will have to wait for the bodies to cease to become police property and returned to their families so they can lay them to rest this can take many months.
The task of explaining where her family are to a four year old I wouldn't wish on any one...I hope that there is family that can take them in and care for them poor poor little girlssad

Their home in Claygate is a warm community and I am sure they will be well supported if they return there.

dorsetpennt Fri 07-Sept-12 09:38:04

Nonu no need to make that remark about the French, as Charlotta said the site is perserved for forensic examination. How a body is found is very important in detecting the scene, in any crime scene the police stress that where possible do not touch anything. That includes bodies. Our police would do the same.
What a dreadful crime. That area is so beautiful how sad to think that it is also prey to such a dreadful crime. The 7 year old was 'beaten to within an inch of her life' what sort of person does that to anyone let alone to a little girl. A lot is being made [in the news] of the fact that the family is British Iraqi, trying to find a reason I suppose. I think everyone is so horrified that they are just trying to find a reason. Poor little girls hopefully there are other members of the family to help them through this and make a home for them,

Ella46 Fri 07-Sept-12 09:34:55

This summer there have been far too many horrible deaths of children, by drowning, or drivers, or parental neglect, or just sheer accident.
Very disturbing and upsettingsad

Nonu Fri 07-Sept-12 09:33:03

Well said JO.

JO4 Fri 07-Sept-12 09:23:52

All we can do is pray that the little seven year old recovers. At least then they will have each other.

I don't suppose the whys and wherefores are going to matter much to them.

sad

Ceesnan Fri 07-Sept-12 07:35:34

I don't think that this thread is the place for accusations or snide remarks of any sort.
