CHRISTMAS - Already???

Despite my horror at the Christmas shop in DJ's I have to confess that I have bought one C-present to leave behind for Barnaby aged 6. At the zoo last week he had a full on hissy fit because he wanted a toy meer cat ($19) as opposed to the pencil and rubber set on offer ($2.50) so today back at the zoo, I bought a rather fetching 9" meer cat. Oh go on, Grannies are allowed to spoil their gc's - aren't they? wink

I got my C..... Lakeland catalogue on Saturday - as I think I have said already, Who needs 50 Shades when you have a Lakeland catalogue? grin

I will too - you just know they'll send you several more in the next few weeks anyway.....hmm

And, Ana it's got all those bits that start to prod the guilty genes - stuff you'll never make etc. I made an executive decision and binned it - I've got quite enough to think about at the moment!

I would love to hold my nerve and leave buying pressies until the last possible minute - C.... week at the earliest as there are always fantastic bargains on things I cannily (huh) bought at the full price in November.

You know when we say our lives and time moves so fast...! well I have come to the conclusion that shops etc are to blame...they are rushing us into the next season well before the last one has hardly started.. how can we enjoy summer (yes I know it's been yak) but lets us at least try and enjoy what is left of the summer before we have to start thinking of Winter and Ch*****s.... obviously when you have pressies to post to far away lands etc then you do need to shop early..but for me I shall try at least to avoid the dreaded Ch*****s word for a while longer...smile

Oh no, Ariadne - that means I'll be getting one very soon....

Ariadne Sun 09-Sept-12 21:08:05

This year I have been buying things I think people would like for several months now, because I can enjoy doing so with no pressure on. The trouble is, it is the easy ones like DDs & DIL rather than the more difficult DH, DS & DSILs and so am likely to end up in a panic anyway! Not to mention that the safe place where I have put the shopping so far will have become expunged from my memory by early November... I always find Christmas a bit depressing and am trying to make it more fun by easing the pressure (but have not yet started writing Christmas cards - you can take it too far hmm). Actually, the best year ever was the year DS was due on January 9th and DS1 was under 2 and so I bought gift vouchers for everybody and they all said they liked them! Should probably just do that every year, but it seems like cheating. (DS was born on Christmas Day, which made it the best Christmas ever too!)

I panic if I'm not organised although I must admit I'm more organised than usual. Also it keeps me out of the shops when the buy, buy, buy campaign starts and I don't get dragged along.

Just wish I could hibernate from December through to January 6th and wake up when it is all over,it just overwhelms me and makes a jabbering idiot of me ...well more of a jabbering idiot I should say....I wish I could be excused from the silly season dare I say bah humbug.

Much as I love David Jones (in Sydney) that is way too early.

I really don't want to think about C* Day yet!

I have been wrapping presents tonight to post off tomorrow. Mind you they are going to South Africa.

I've also bought all the presents for my younger children and my grandchildren. The older children like gift vouchers.

I know I'm very sad but the toy offers were too tempting and I knew what the children wanted.

It seems Mr.T has advent calendars and selection boxes out already... makes me resist all the more when they are so early with their temptations..

Marelli Thu 06-Sept-12 22:18:48

Oh no, no, no! Can't do it - won't do it! confused

Gally Thu 06-Sept-12 22:04:31

I was shocked/appalled/horrified to see the Christmas Shop has opened in David Jones (department store here in Oz). Full on decorated christmas trees and presents to buy ready for a day so far in the future that I can't even imagine it! shock
