It is a litttle worrying when experts fail to get the value right but James Lewis is exceptionally clever at spotting unusual and valuable items on other antique programmes. I would travel all the way to his sale room for him to sell my inherited antiques if I needed the money.

Is he the lovely , don't mean to be rude, chubby cheeks from Derby. If it is I like him too.

Yes, that is James. I found some ancient magic lanten slides in the back of my garage and my son kindly took them to James on his way home to Glasgow. He sold them for a good price - I had thought they were rubbish!

I like the Antiques Roadshow but I also enjoy the Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt. My favourite person is Anita - the Scottish expert on Bargain Hunt who is so entertaining when she's on her home turf as an auctioneer. On the Roadshow I like Rupert Maas and his descriptions of the paintings and drawings. I trawl round the occasional car boot in the hope of finding something. Perhaps one day...........smile

Oh! Anita is my absolute favourite too. I will watch and enjoy anything that she is in. I wish I had something with some value so that I could take it to her saleroom just for the pleasure of watching her sell it. Unfortunately both my DM and MIL were both of the 'throw out the old and bring in the new' persuasion - usually cheap and cheerful plastic replacements - so I am constantly seeing items which I remember from my childhood going for high prices while all I was left was a pile of useless junk.

Anita is smashing. Just looks like a happy, kind person. Always raises the smiles when she is one of the dealers. If I lived in Scotland I would go to her auction house to watch her, so professional and as I am sure all you Scottish ladies would say 'very canny'. smile

She is by far the best of the auctioneers used in Flogit and Bargain Hunt. How does she manage to so frequently make a profit for the BH contestants when other auctioneers so seldom do?
Fellow pedants, don't get started on split infinitives....grin

Anita always has fabulous finger nails too!

I love her jewellery as well. She's always well dressed. Apparently she runs the auction house with her daughter. She tries really hard with the Bargain Hunters and is so very tactful too. Some of the auctioneers couldn't give a toss of their gavel and are po faced with it! There is one man who has mellowed though, but I can't remember his name. He has a dry sense of humour. Isn't it funny though, that nine times out of ten, the expert's choice makes a loss! Of course it depends on the area and the people but even so.....
