That sounds wonderful, Grannylin!
Stansgran, you are quite right. I do the Geneva-Manchester run several times a year, (I was there in August for my grandson's wedding) and I have noticed that the Swiss side is much more relaxed. I don't use make-up, so I don't have any problems with hand luggage.
I went over in May to bring my sister back and I had arranged wheelchair assistance for her at both ends. No problems in Geneva, but when she got back to Manchester she was told she would have to wait as they had only two wheelchairs and three requests.
I hate Manchester airport, but it is the only one that is convenient for me. Last time I was there I put £2 in the computer and it didn't work. When I tried to find Customer Services it was tucked away at the very furthest end of the Departure lounge. It was unattended and the courtesy phone did not work. I thought it was ridiculous that an international airport had no easy access to Customer Services. I sent a complaint and got a stupid reply, saying I could get my £2 back if I rang a premium phone number - from France.

Sounds fantastic Greatnan.I haven't had an exciting day but my OH has. After 3 years as a GOM, he has landed a fantastic job at the age of 65 and has flown off today to ...Madagascar!(It's only a week and he is coming back....I think!)

Stansgran Fri 14-Sept-12 17:55:29

Greatnan last time I did the Manchester- Geneva flight I found that the customs in Geneva weren't the slightest bit bothered about my makeup-contact lens liquid inside my hand luggage but Manchester made me take it out of its transparent bag buy one of their special ones(two for a pound)and then put it all in a machine. Avoid the woman with the fiercely dyed black hair.
There are also no seats available at the Manchester Easyjet check-in if you arrive early so if you come off a train with time to spare loiter somewhere other than Easyjet.

All sounding wonderful, greatnan. Nothing like having -loads- a few exciting adventures in the pipeline to look forward to. smile

Greatnan Fri 14-Sept-12 17:45:00

I will be in Switzerland next week for three weeks, then I am doing a house swap to the Perpignan area and spending a couple of days in Barcelona.
Always present a moving target!

Wonderful! gangy is right, planning is all part of the excitement.

gangy5 Fri 14-Sept-12 17:16:29

Sounds fantastic Greatnan. I think that half of the enjoyment is in the organising of going away. The looking forward to it is also pleasurable.
Staying excited over your adventures will keep you young!!

glassortwo Fri 14-Sept-12 17:16:15

I have now booked flights and car hire for my Christmas break with my sister in Manchester, and my flights to New Zealand next February. Now I have to start building up my travel fund again! I am going with Singapore Airlines to Auckland, where I transfrer to Nelson. I have great plans for my six weeks in NZ - a week in the South, visiting Fjiordland and Mt. Cook, and a week's snorkeling , probably on one of the islands of New Caledonia.
I love retirement!
