Evening all, not sure if this has been done before, or that there may be a similar thread, but here we go;

1) Supermarkets who make their parking spaces just that little bit too small to get ones trolley between cars, meaning that one has to wheel the trolley around and approach from the rear.

2) Bloody silly use of "yourself" or "myself" when either "you" or "me" would be fine. (recent example in a letter, "If you have any queries, do please feel free to get in touch with myself" Aaaaaarrrrgh!

Bags Mon 24-Sept-12 12:13:38

Oh, I agree, absent, in most cases, and especially ones like that!

Lilygran Mon 24-Sept-12 12:13:29

Exactly, absent!

absentgrana Mon 24-Sept-12 12:07:23

Bags It's more a question of avoiding taking responsibility in the case of most MPs. John Prescott talked about "what happened" as if his unruly, though apparently inadequate appendage found its own way into committing disorderly activities with his diary secretary and he had no part to play in the whole unsavoury business.

petallus Mon 24-Sept-12 12:07:11

Oh no Bags I should have put a smiley or grin to make it obvious I was being tongue in cheek, as Littlenellie picked up on.

I wonder if anyone else finds themselves oggling younger men sometimes.

Bags Mon 24-Sept-12 12:02:30

Sorry, pet, I assumed that the annoyance you mentioned was a kind of impatience. Forgive me for getting it wrong.

petallus Mon 24-Sept-12 11:46:27

Eh Bags. I didn't mention impatience!

Bags Mon 24-Sept-12 11:41:16

Agreed. But sometimes it's just holding fire until it is known without doubt who needs to take responsibility. There is a place, and a need, for that in certain circumstances, but I think that perhaps it is overused.

Lilygran Mon 24-Sept-12 10:43:20

The whole thing about 'something happened' rather than 'I did it'. It may only be a verbal habit but I think it is avoiding responsibility.

annodomini Mon 24-Sept-12 09:28:04

petallus, nellie, grin.

absentgrana Mon 24-Sept-12 09:17:48

glitabo Phew. That's a relief. grin

glitabo Mon 24-Sept-12 09:14:24

No

absentgrana Mon 24-Sept-12 09:12:22

glitabo Did you work for an MP?

glitabo Mon 24-Sept-12 09:10:34

absent when I was working my boss told me that the way to make an apology is to say I am sorry if that is your understanding of the situation thereby still leaving the responsibility with the person who had been offended.

absentgrana Mon 24-Sept-12 08:57:24

Political apologies which somehow manage to include being sorry "for what happened" rather than sorry for "what I did/said". And those political apologies where someone is sorry "if anyone was offended/misunderstood".

annodomini Mon 24-Sept-12 08:54:21

Politicians who say 'Let me be very clear about this...' and proceed to obscure the issue even further.

Faye Mon 24-Sept-12 08:34:22

I did baggy. smile

Bags Mon 24-Sept-12 08:14:56

nellie, grin

petallus, yes, impatience is annoying hmm

Littlenellie Mon 24-Sept-12 08:10:54

petallus your description is so enticing,I will change places with you,I would take miles to overtake as well.....would make an old lady very happy grin

petallus Mon 24-Sept-12 08:04:10

Back to cyclists: getting stuck behind some lusty young man whilst in my car and being unable to avoid the view of his brawny thighs as they pump up and down, muscles rippling. Sometimes it is miles before I manage to overtake. So annoying!

Bags Mon 24-Sept-12 07:55:29

Oops! Wrong thread! It was meant to be a smile about the good blog. Oh well, never mind. You get the idea, faye, no doubt! grin

Bags Mon 24-Sept-12 07:45:02

faye, smile

Faye Mon 24-Sept-12 04:20:04

People who take the scenic route in a conversation.

feetlebaum I prefer no full stops after letters, such as the BBC or MOT.

annodomini I am with you, callers who repeat my name in a telephone conversation while they try to sell me something. It is not friendly and is quite irritating, wonder why they haven't figured that out yet.
