Mine's the same! And if I foolishly suggest that there's no point in explaining the finer details of whatever project he's insisting on telling me about because I won't understand, he will very kindly draw me a diagram...

Oh God! The diagrams!!!!

I think they do this explaining and drawing diagrams to help get things straight in their own minds. I just smile and say things like''Fancy that!'' as he is so good at inventing, recycling, mending etc that we must have saved hundreds over the years.

You are lucky Jo if it goes to the tip - mostly I find that things are put in the garage 'in case' the broken/missing piece can be found elsewhere or indeed if the worn out thing may be useful for spares for other items!!

When my husband died his brother kindly offered to sort out the garage for me - he tried to instil some kind of order but gave up in the end. The funny thing was that if you had asked my husband for a certain item - he could tell you exactly where it was in the garage! No doubt a lot of his "just in case" things will eventually end up at the recycling centre - but can't deal with that at the moment

Bez - we, too, have a garage and shed full of things that got the better of DH....sigh!

When mr.glamma offered to sort the shed for my mum after we lost my dad we where amazed at the amount of stuff he had hidden in there,whilst we knew he loved to try and save lawnmowers from " the great lawnmower tip in the sky" we where not aware he had 3 ride on mowers and 5/6 other mowers all in different stages of revival.The only funny thing is that his garden was just your average size,not that it bothered him at all it just kept him happy messing around with his pride and joys.J04 when he starts to oil the parts in the kitchen is the time to scream I can still hear my darling mum telling him off now.

Distinct memories here of my late husband taking over MY KITCHEN to replace a cylinder head gasket in a Saab!

My DH kept EVERYTHING, and then got some more! I once asked if he had a spare plug for the bathroom sink and he replied 'What colour, what size and what length chain?' He had about 2 dozen of the damn things

My DH rebuilt a car engine in my kitchen many years ago, the DC were small and they were forever getting oil all over them and everything else!

I understand far more about drainage systems than I feel I need to, but he is very impressed!

Compression and combustion engines,torque ,hybrid engines,found out much more than I wanted too having it explained to me in detail whilst typing up the notes for lovely OH course work....he is dyslexic and the dragon did not work for him...yawn emoticon zzzzzzzz
