What I did today.

Somewhat late birthday greetings from me, Mr Soop. That lunch sounds just perfect

Jings A stool, a basin, a plastic watering can to fill with water from the tap and empty part into plastic cups, [but mostly on the floor] was wee man's idea of heaven. He would need to be stripped down to his nappy [now in pants] and he would find it amusing to offer me soapy water, [to pretend to drink.] He'd wait for me to pull a funny face and spit it out, and then he'd almost fall off the stool with laughing. It was the best game ever!

Ana it's very cosy inside. He has a basket lined with a check fleece. Rubber matting on the floor. It is classed as a large kennel...and so it is. If we had two, we could move in alongside him!

That's grandchildren - not cats!!!

soop they love the water don't they. Oh the hours I've spent holding onto my two while they stood on a chair in front of the kitchen sink 'playing with the water'!

Sigh! They are growing up so fast.

Well, he doesn't want to show any sort of enthusiasm straight away, does he? You'll probably find him fast asleep in it sometime soon!

Rory's apartment is looking good. He wandered over to it as we placed his supper just inside his front door. He looked up at us, turned away, and went for a wander in the woods. That's gratitude for you!

Welcome Olliebeak "just sitting down at the computer for a moment" on gransnet is not easy. Don't try cooking at the same time or its burnt offerings. Enjoy!

Smoluski Mr soop sends Nellie a birthday hug. This evening, we'll raise a glass of cheer to you all. It's been a lovely day. The kennel apartment is about to be placed on the paving by the back door. We're thrilled...just as well, because Rory won't give a damn!

That's true, Ana. Wee man tries to sit on my knee when I'm on the lav...because he can then turn on the taps, and float the soap, toothpaste and suchlike in the basin.

'twas a scrummy lunch. Met a few villagers. Raised a glass and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Mr soop is all of a ...he's charmed by all the good wishes from you lovely lot.
We've been constructing Rory's new residence [it came flat-packed.] What a to-do and all for a cat that is snoring soundly inside his wheelie bin. Can't wait to carry it outside and introduce him to his smart apartment. Bet he'll be thrilled [not!]
Gally...long walks in the sunshine, are good for both grannies and babes. I remember the feeling of utter exhaustion after three days of caring for the wee man, when he really was "wee". In fact, I went to bed very shortly after him. One thing I do remember, is not having sufficient time for a leisurely cup of tea, or a pee...

It's amazing isn't it how we can still hear the slightest sound they make during the night, even after all these years.
Such a powerful instinct!

Fellow feelings Gally there is always a period of 'what the heck now' isn't there? Our youngest DGC will jump around in his door bouncer for ages but then a switch flicks and he hates it. He is 9 months old now and pulling himself up on all the most dangerous pieces of furniture - you know, the ones with corners!! He actually cut his mouth last time he was here but, luckily, the bleeding had stopped by the time DD3 came back. I find this stage the most exhausting.

With you, gm, it is always a relief that they keep breathing isn't it. We lost the cat once and, while I don't believe that cats would suffocate a baby, there was lots of discussion between DH and I about which risk was higher - waking him up or the cat sitting on him!

The fresh air will do him the world of good, Gally, and hopefully will help him sleep tonight....! I was always the same with the 'baby GC's' - it's not as if you can give them some paper and a box of paints to entertain them...!

With you there, Gally! I hadn't realised you had ventured South again so soon but hope you have a lovely time. Long walks in the buggy are always an attractive prospect and fill in those awkward moments between feeding and sleeping. Littlest DGS used to happy to bounce in his bouncy chair for ages, but once the tolerance level is past, there's not a lot you can do.As to the waking in the night - I am always torn between"Darn, there he goes again" and "Phew, he's still alive!" I am the original worry wart tiptoeing in to check still breathing!

You're doing a grand job Gally. Thames path will be lovely. Hope sun keeps up for you.

I am in sole charge of GS aged 6 months for the next 24 hours. I don't think I'm a very good Granny as I am happiest when he is in bed, fast asleep . I've discovered that it's quite hard to entertain a 6 month old for more than 5 minutes at a time, so propose to plonk him in the pushchair and go for a long walk this afternoon along the Thames path. He woke up 4x last night - not looking forward to that bit .......

Me? I've had my flu jab - talk about life in the fast lane, chez gracesfamily and contemplated a walk but sat down at the laptop instead - and the rest is history...............................................
