What is his tail like, soop ? Does it end in a point (domestic moggie) or thick and bushy all the way down, with stripes, to a blunt end (wildcat) There are other differences too, details at HWP .
It says that "Unlike the domestic cat, the wildcat is a seasonal breeder" which does not sound like Rory, who seems to know no curfew. It also says " Mating occurs during February and 2-6 kittens are born approximately 68 days later" so when were Rory's kits born?
But I would think not, if he tolerates humans. Wildcats are just that, not just domestic cats gone awol or their descendants.
However, they can interbreed with domestic moggies, which looks like being their downfall. The macho toms must be a hit with feral female queens. I don't know how feral toms are brave enough to take on wildcat queens, maybe they just give in to girl power.
My name is down for a visit to the HWP toward the end of November for a presentation on wildcat genetics. Apparently recent tests on the HWPs own wildcats showed that not one of them was genetically pure. I shall report back if you like on what is being considered re improving the wild stock, which is similarly getting more diluted. One opinion (just someone's suggestion so far!) is to cull them and reintroduce a pure population from the continent. Not sure if that would be good or bad.
