Is it me or is this daft?

I saw that programme, too, Sbagran. It was Martyn Lewis - I think he's brilliant and talks such a lot of sense. I wish I used trains more so that I could make use of his good advice!

Did anyone see the TV programme the other evening about 'split' journey railway tickets?
If I want to travel from Station A to Station C first of all I have to check that the train actually stops at Station B en route.
I then buy a ticket to cover from Station A to Station B. I don't need to get off the train as at the same time as buying my first ticket I buy a second ticket to cover from Station B to Station C.
The combined cost of those two tickets is nearly always far cheaper than buying one ticket to cover Station A to Station C - crazy!
There could be other stations between the ones on my ticket - you just choose a station mid/part way but it must be a station that the train actually stops at, so that theoretically you could have joined the train at that station!
Can't remember the name of the programme but it was the same 'Martin' as issues the weekly Martin's Moneysaving tips emails that have been previously talked about on Gransnet.

I went into Bon Marche yesterday to buy a jumper for mum as her loyalty card worth £5 was fully stamped and the card ran out today. I took the jumper to the till and after I paid, the assistant stamped a new card which filled up straight away as it was 'triple points day'. I was told that the card would run out today but I could use it if I bought something else straight away. I chose a nightie for mum and went through the whole routine again. £5 off the nightie meant I only paid £3. I then bought two packs of knickers and some socks......same again. I then thought I'd treat myself to a T shirt which only cost me £3 as well. I noticed the queue had the same people in it going round and round in circles buying one item at a time. I still haven't worked out whether the girl was doing the right thing but I bet when she cashed up there was very little dosh in the till. confused

Blame the person who programs the computer, not the machine!

It's daft.

But, NannaAnna, I am not costing them as much as I would have been had I taken 4 items rather than 3. confused

NannaAnna Fri 28-Sept-12 23:51:54

kittylister I'm assuming you mean they wouldn't take the 3 items and clean them for the promotional offer of £18, not that they wouldn't accept them?
I don't see the issue here. The promotional offer is '4 items cleaned for £18'. If you take in 3 items, you are not participating in the offer. Simples smile

This has happened to me, too, Kitty - completely mad. It wasn't so bad when the family were at home as I could always find an extra thing, but not so easy now.

Computer says no! Sometimes the only response is to shake one's head, no wonder you see old folk doing that all over town grin

It's daft but typical. Computers are completely thick.

It's daft. If I'd been behind the counter I'd have entered each trouser leg as a separate item.

grin Take the dog's blanket in? grin

Having collected a coat from the dry cleaner's, I was given a voucher for 4 cloth items to be cleaned for £18.

As my husband's favourite suit needs cleaning and I have been debating taking another coat to be done, I took all three items in this afternoon. The woman behind the counter wouldn't take them as there were only 3 items. Had I had them done separately the three items would have cost about £25 so, if I go back with something else, the normal cost must be around £30. I was told that the computer won't accept it unless there are 4 items listed in the till! confusedangry
