callers who ask how you are

Is anyone else irritated - as I am - by strangers on the phone asking 'and how are you today?' I am very tempted to tell them, and the other day when I was feeling very grotty with a cold, I did so, whereupon the lady became extremely apologetic and hoped it was nothing serious and was sorry for disturbing me. I wish more of you would do this - we all have aches and pains - then perhaps this would stop.

Yes, grannystrong I get irritated by that too. As if they cared!
Like supermarket staff telling me to have a brilliant weekend.

I really can't stand answering the phone and hearing, 'And how are you today?' I just answer with a short, 'Fine, thank you' and then wait for them to get to the point. I find it easier to get rid of them if there has been no preliminary chat about my well being. Whatever happened to, 'I'm sorry to bother you' or 'Could you spare a moment?'

Phone rang yesterday. Mr soop politely answered it. Silence for a long moment, followed by the usual flannel from a complete stranger. Mr soop enquired - to whom do you wish to speak? After yet more flannel, he finished with...'you can't speak to him. He's in prison.' He's done this on countless occasions. One of these days, the caller will be someone he wishes to impress...only, of course, he won't be aware of that fact until it's too late. hmm

I often feel like saying I have atrial fibrilation ,osteoporosis, pulmonary fibrosis and my hands are so painful I can hardly hold this phone so please get on with it. As it is I usually say'Fine!'.

My Husband gets irritated by''See you soon'' when there is very little likelihood of ever meeting them again.

That was one question you never asked my mother unless you'd got at least an hour to spare! She ENJOYED ill health.

P.S. I did once answer with,''Are you a medical person?'' which stopped her in her tracks.
