There has been some discussion recently on different threads about church finances. I refer anyone who is really interested to www.churchofengland.org/media/1200482/fees%20table%202011%20amended%20for%202012%20marriage%20certificate. The priest who performs the ceremony does not keep the payment, it goes to the diocese. Some churches have lots of weddings, for example, and others have very few so the fees are shared out in this way. As far as weddings are concerned, the charges made by churches are comparable with those made for civil ceremonies www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Registeringlifeevents/Marriagesandcivilpartnerships/DG_175715 The premises charges for a civil wedding or partnership depend, of course, on the place where the ceremony is held.

There was a suggestion ( more than a suggestion) that churches are profiteering in various ways. See the 'Hypocrite?' thread, for example. Just trying to provide some factual information.....

Lilygran - I am not interested in the Church of England's finances, but you have an amazing ability to read things that are not there. Where on the 'hypocrite' thread did I (I presume you meant me) mention profiteering?
