My daughter had twin girls today and they are all doing well.
My other daughter is expecting a baby in December.
The only sad part of it is my wife passed away this day last year with cancer so they will only have 3 grandparents and 2 great grandparents.
It just seems so strange that I am a grandad and hopefully I will be buying my mother and father christmas cards and hopefully mother and fathers day cards next year.

Congratulations andy! Grandchildren give you a new perspective on the future and a link with the past. They are still a link with your late wife and will carry on her genes as well as yours. Have great pleasure in your new little ones, and tell them about their grandmother, with photos, so that they don't miss out on this important part of their family. flowers sunshine

Andy

The term 'bitter sweet' has alreaady been used but that is unfortunately true for you I am sure at this time. You are quite rightly so proud of your beautiful twins it is a joy to pass on congratulations. You are being rather greedy, another one in December! smile

I am sure they will help to keep your mind focused, give you love you will be missing and hugs and kisses to cherish forever. Lovely. Lucky man.

Congratulations Andy, I always think it bittersweet when you lose a loved one and there is a newborn in the family. Twins on this sad first anniversary and another baby to help soften the blow of the loss of your wife around Christmas time. How lovely, I hope the babies keep you very busy. flowers

Andy I hope that your little grandchildren will bring you much joy, and will help to heal your sadness. I'm delighted for you. As Nellie says, go and bore your pals silly with lots of photographs and suchlike. When you have a photo, we'd love to see it on Gransnet. flowers

Andy wine flowers Congratulations! I did the first Grandchild bit 3 weeks ago with a little boy. I had to post the news on Gransnet. I fully understand the need to boast about how wonderful the babies are. Take lots of photos to bore your friends with, they don't mind, particularly with what you have been through in the last year. I am sorry this happy time is saddened for you by the anniversary, maybe as others suggest the twins birth will help you.

Enjoy the twins, what we need to know is their names and their weights in pounds and ounces.

Huge congratulations as someone has already said, what a wonderful (and lively!) memorial to your wife. Do enjoy the wee girls - I am sure you will; and that you will have lots of wisdom, fun and memories from your DW to pass on to a new generation.

Daman Fri 19-Oct-12 14:14:22

The lovely way we live on is by telling our stories to the next generations, and by them remembering our personality.

Carokai Fri 19-Oct-12 14:07:22

Congratulations Andy.

I empathise with your sadness, my Grandson was born after my Husband was killed in an accident six years ago and I often reflect upon the fact that DH would have loved this next chapter in our lives.

However, I make sure that DH's memory is kept alive and talk about him with both my Grandchildren. We look at pictures together and the children ask questions about him all the time!!

Enjoy your time with all of your new Grandchildren, they are so much fun!!

More great news. Dad has had his final check after his recent heart operation and he is in very good for 86.
The doctors have said he can have a glass of champagne tonight and my and my parents dogs will get an extra treat as well.
