Stansgran Mon 29-Oct-12 20:06:56

Grim day today. You are all wonderful.

Ana Mon 29-Oct-12 20:01:51

Serve them right! grin

Have those whinging light bulbs considered the inhibiting effect their complaints may have on those robust enough to brave Google to research esoteric wattage data and then dare to climb shaky ladders on their behalf? If they are put off these vital tasks, then the light bulbs may linger unloved and uninserted in dark cupboards under the stairs and never fulfill their potential.

Anne58 Mon 29-Oct-12 19:49:48

And rather dim!

Ana Mon 29-Oct-12 19:40:09

There have been no personal attacks on individual long life bulbs that I can see. I would suggest that those long life bulbs who choose to comlain are over-sensitive!

Anne58 Mon 29-Oct-12 19:37:29

Well, it's just not good enough! If they have the energy to pm you, Greatnan , then they should put some of it towards their main (if not only) function, which is illumination.

merlotgran Mon 29-Oct-12 19:36:25

So now can we have an emoticon for those [lightbulb] moments? grin

Greatnan Mon 29-Oct-12 19:32:02

I have received several pms from long life bulbs complaining that they are being bullied. This has to stop - they are doing their best.

Anne58 Mon 29-Oct-12 19:21:00

Once we do, will the buggers actually provide adequate illumination?

The one in the home office is particularly sulky, has to be turned on before I go to have my shower to ensure there is adequate light to put my make up on when I come out.

And as for the one in the guest bedroom, sullen bastard. Just will not get into the corners.

nightowl Mon 29-Oct-12 19:11:11

NfkDumpling I would like to question your assertion that longlife lightbulbs have no feelings and ask whether you have read any of the recent research on this subject. In my last job at the Centre for Lightbulb Research I was involved in several scientifically rigorous studies in this area. I will try to find the links for any of you who may be interested.

I think I can say with approximately 99.5% certainty that we are approaching the day when we will be able to identify the centre of emotion in longlife lightbulbs.

AlieOxon Mon 29-Oct-12 19:04:14

Old light bulbs never die - they just fade out.

annodomini Mon 29-Oct-12 18:31:34

What are DC and big GC for?

NfkDumpling Mon 29-Oct-12 18:07:32

We've had a low energy bulb which has just been hanging there in the hall for several years. Shows no emotion. No a flicker. I've tried tickling it with a feather duster which usually gets a small rattle from some filament bulbs, knocking it with a paint brush. Nothing. What happens when one breaks?

Hunt Mon 29-Oct-12 18:02:33

Do you mean a filament bulb or one of those new-fangled low energy bulbs? If the latter , be careful you don't break it as then we may need a Medic.

NfkDumpling Mon 29-Oct-12 18:01:12

Except of course long life bulbs which as we all know have no feelings.

jeni Mon 29-Oct-12 17:58:49

Cruelty to light bulbs!angry

Anne58 Mon 29-Oct-12 17:16:33

NfkDumpling Mon 29-Oct-12 17:11:59

NfkDumpling Mon 29-Oct-12 17:09:15

iPad decided!

nightowl Mon 29-Oct-12 17:08:41

Well if you're all going to argue and Greatnan is going to shout I will have to leave gransnet. I'm just sick of people being so unkind to one another grin

Ana Mon 29-Oct-12 17:04:17

Actually, petallus, if we're being pedantic, NfkDumpling is correct! wink

petallus Mon 29-Oct-12 17:02:02

NfkD I think it's lightbulb! wink

NfkDumpling Mon 29-Oct-12 16:53:36

Surely the third point re the dangers of electricity and light bulb changing show that this is certainly NOT a subject for hilarity and should not be in the Jokes section wink
