Your first tournament sounds like quite an achievement Bags fun too smile

Bags Mon 12-Nov-12 09:02:41

The tournament was fun, though tiring, especially as we didn't get a break. Every tournament DH has been to before has had a break half way through. Never mind. I shot reasonably well, though I've a bit to go before I can compete with the Scotttish women's barebow record holders! DH came third in the men's recurve competition and got another medal. Pretty good seeing as he's still a novice. I was given a wee trophy because I won my category of women's barebow. Not difficult as I was the only entrant for that class!!!!! It's much harder to shoot barebow, which is why it isn't so popular as olympic recurve. All the sighting and aiming and so on is down to you and not the equipment. That's its appeal for me, plus the fact that one's bow is lighter because you don't have rods and weights fastened onto it.

I was shooting in a group of four which contained the man who won overall, a lady about my age (whose son was also taking part put on a different target; he won his under eighteen category), a girl who was very good (won the under fourteen girls'), and me. There was a boy of eight on the next boss who chatted (a lot!) to me between ends. He was like one of Brave heroine, Merida's, little brothers – red curly hair and full of mischief. His big brother, seventeen and also red haired, was shooting barebow too. I expect he got a higher score than me wink.

When I said I think of GN when I'm doing archery, I didn't mean any of you were 'on the target'. It's more as if I'm representing gransnet shock. Odd really. Anyway, I was quite nervous and butterfly-tummied at the start but that soon settled down. Archery has a way of concentrating the mind, so you're too busy trying to get your centre of gravity right to stay nervous. Or so I find, anyhow smile

ga flowers, I too thought of you yesterday and sent you silent good wishes when I went to our local church for the Remembrance service. Glad the wedding went off well.

Ariadne Mon 12-Nov-12 06:38:01

Lovely times; We went to Hampshire yesterday for DGS2's fourth birthday party, and saw the two DGDs too, then DH insisted on driving over to their house in Cheltenham with a couple of things that don't fit in this house. So we finally got back to Devon at about midnight. Why am I awake??

Ariadne Mon 12-Nov-12 06:34:47

ga was thinking of you and your family this weekend at the services. flowers

Nelliemoser Sun 11-Nov-12 23:04:32

I washed my car several times! Why does a newly washed car look perfectly clean until it dries?
In between these washes.
I watched the Remembrance day parade from about 10:40 to 11:15. It always makes me cry.

Otherwise I bought a book using the Canadian Amazon site, Bought a short break for DS and partners christmas present and not a lot else acheived.

ga hope you are feeling better and have been able to rest. You sound as though you had a really enjoyable day and then a poignant one. flowers. My daughter cut her cake with the military sword belonging to one of her old school friends who, thankfully, returned safely from Afghanistan. He attended in uniform, with medals, which thrilled all the little boys present. This morning at breakfast, we remembered the sister of another of their school friends who died in Iraq. sad

Having worked out how to up load photos, I'm on a roll and have added some more!

Happy pictures, Kitty. I hope the next ones will show us the well-dressed mother of the bride!
GAso pleased you made it to the wedding, but sorry you weren't feeling too good. It sounds like a really fun wedding with all those interesting ideas.

grannyactivist Sun 11-Nov-12 18:45:00

Congratulations on your lovely day Kitty. Although I wasn't fully well I thoroughly enjoyed the wedding and everything went off without a hitch. The bride was radiant, the weather was glorious and my son's speech was wholly in rhyme and voted the best ever heard. There were many lovely quirky things; all of the tables were named for moustaches (an homage to the Wonderful Man); origami birds graced every table; there were no favours, but paper bags and jars of sweeties for pick 'n' mix were available for people to choose their favourites. Most importantly the bride and groom enjoyed every moment of their day. smile
Today was a complete change of tone as the family gathered at my son-in-law's grave. During the two minutes silence my grandson stayed completely still and silent then kissed his daddy's gravestone and said 'goodbye'. Tears all round. sad

olliebeak Sun 11-Nov-12 16:39:09

Cheers for the 'glass of wine', Nanadog - hic!

Yesterday afternoon, I found lots of bargains in Asda's End of Season clothing sell-off for the grandkids for next year; plus some good bargains towards the Christmas Stash smile

This morning, I've been back to the gym for a good workout and put my name down for a couple of Group Activities this week (Low Impact Aerobics and Circuit) - after reaching a weight-loss plateau, I need to kick-start my body into some extra activity this week grin.

A few more clothing bargains for next year and a few more whoopsied bargains for the 'Christmas Stash' - I have a couple of 'buffet parties' to cater for family members and they are now 'mostly sorted'.

I'm about to make a start on some 'decluttering' that desperately needs doing before my house move is upon me!

kittylester Sun 11-Nov-12 16:37:02

Yesterday went very well - thank you to all who thought about ga's son's marriage and my DD2's marriage - both of which were yesterday [not to each other!].

We had a splendid day - the bride was absolutely stunning (well, I would say that, wouldn't I?) the flower girls (my 2 DGDs) and the pageboy (DGS1) looked beautiful and behaved quite well. DH's speech was declared 'the best ever' and the groom couldn't finish his properly for crying while he talked about how much he loved his new wife. I even had compliments on my outfit smile.

It was a day full of love and goodwill, laughter and tears, good food and quite a bit to drink!!

I hope ga's day was as lovely as ours. sunshine
