Jane x to you and the parents of the soldier

I've been to visit DDand DGD. Had a lovely afternoon. Took up a kitten glove puppet. A real hit! She loved it!

Oh Greatnan It's walking on eggshells again isn't it? Maybe she is just having a bad day. hmm

jeni Sat 10-Nov-12 17:09:28

I've got one. It's better than my window cleaner and doesn't charge £15 each time. Half the time I'll swear he hadn't done them when he came to be paid saying he'd cleaned them while I was out at work.

Greatnan Sat 10-Nov-12 17:03:23

I hope both of 'our' weddings went well and the weather was kind.
I have done practically nothing - I set out on a walk but it started to rain quite heavily and I don't see the point in getting soaking wet.
I am in trouble with DD1 - we were complaining on Facebook about the fact that it has been very difficult to follow recently, with posts not appearing for several days or not at all. There is a suggestion that they might be going to ask us to subscribe. I posted that I would have to remain a member because it was the only way I had of keeping up with the Gcs activities as their lives were too busy for them to send me e-mails. This was not meant to be critical, just a statement of fact. Only one of the ten ever sends me a pm except in reply to a message from me. I wasn't complaining about this - I have long ago accepted that I am not a very important part of their lives, but I think she saw it as a criticism. She asked if I had meant it to be a pm. I told her no, it was just a response to a thread but I deleted it. Did I say something wrong?

Courage! Crimson. You would probably have to try really hard to shred your fingers.
I have been wearing eyebrow pencil, which makes a lot of difference, but maybe eyeliner again. Mascara requires glitabo's window cleaning machine to remove it hmm grin
I am lucky - been for a lovely walk in Ashridge. Beautiful beech trees, just turning gold and coppery brown and dropping a carpet of toffee coloured leaves on the ground. Some huge Spanish Chestnut trees (the edible kind) - one about 10 metres around. I wondered whether it was a sapling when Elizabeth and Edward Tudor were released from their studies (Latin and Greek from toddler-hood) and allowed to go out and chase deer. Beautiful big herd of charcoal coloured deer, with one stag guarding them - his antlers so heavy you could see his neck sagging with their weight at every step he took.
Nice slice of cake in the NT cafe.
Back home our roads are lined with bright, butter coloured maples.

Ana it is brilliant. It would have taken ages to wash and dry all the greenhouse windows and then polish them to streak free. The whole thing was very quick and easy. I would recommend it and I am not on commission.

crimson Sat 10-Nov-12 16:33:05

Just did a bit of shredding to get some shredded newspaper to put in the compost bin. Does anyone else feel really uneasy shredding things? I worry about my fingers [I know they're made to be safe in that respect; at least I hope they are].

Ana Sat 10-Nov-12 16:08:28

I've been looking at those, glitabo - they are a bit expensive but I was thinking it might be worth it if they do a good job.

glitabo Sat 10-Nov-12 14:43:38

I have spent the morning cleaning the greenhouse including the windows and it is looking great. It is nearly ready to be wrapped in bubble wrap for the winter.
I have harvested all the peppers and chillies and put the plants in the brown recycling bin. My 10 year GS arrived while I was doing it and he stayed and helped. It made the time pass much more quickly and it was fun having him around.
I have bought a Karcher window vac. I thought it was a bit of an extravagance but it is amazing. The windows were in a terrible state with soil and green "gunge' on them. Now they sparkle.grin
My GS really loved using it as well and wants to borrow it.

I find Benefit is kinder on my eyes than YSL crimson. I would get dry, flaky skin around my lower eyelids but don't any more. It all depends on skin type, I guess smile

crimson Sat 10-Nov-12 12:05:36

I'll try some when I'm in town; tend to be a bit allergic to some things so I'll ask for a demo. My daughter used Benefit make up for her wedding and it looked fabulous.

whenim64 Sat 10-Nov-12 12:00:54

I've used Touche Éclat for years, but my daughter introduced me to Benefit Erase Paste, which comes in a tiny pot. Around the same price, but covers dark shadows even better and lasts twice as long. I'm converted!

crimson Sat 10-Nov-12 11:45:56

Touche eclat. Best thing ever. Must get a 'back up one' in case mine runs out unexpectedly wink.

annodomini Sat 10-Nov-12 11:40:27

On Strictly It Takes Two, you sometimes have clips of celebs without their make-up. Poor Fern Britain looked really haggard. Not that I can talk - a bit of blusher is a must for me, being more pallid than haggard.

crimson Sat 10-Nov-12 11:30:17

For most of my adult life I wouldn't leave the house without wearing make up; then, after having blepharitis [sp] and being told by my doctor I could no longer wear eye make up I stopped bothering; even going to work without make up. imo if I can't wear eye make up there's no point wearing any. Then, a couple of years later I started wearing eye make up again and my eyes were fine. That doctor has no idea how upset I'd been by what he'd told me angry. I've realised though that, although I like the invisibility of not bothering with make up the lack of effort on my appearance is actually dragging me down a bit, so I'm going to start wearing it again most days. I mean, even the dreaded 'celebs' look awful in these 'caught off guard' photos. I stayed up half the night watching the Sandy Denny tribute concert on BBC4; I'd seen it at the theatre and thought I'd enjoy it more watching in comfort at home, but I found it very boring. I then watched the following programme about Fairport Convention which I've seen before but can happily watch over and over again. What made both programmes more interesting was that I'd met Ashley Hutchings and his son, Blair Dunlop the week before at our village hall, so seeing Blair in the concert and his dad in the Fairport programme was given an added interest. I usually have one dodgy knee at any given time but for the past few days they have both been playing up; this is making me feel wretched to say the least...I've always joked about them 'both going at the same time' and, voila, here we are. It's making me [as is obvious] put off doing all the weekend jobs that need doing. And we're having a totally new computer system at work which sounds terrifying, as I've only just got my head round the old system. I'm terribly grumpy today, and the S.O. has arrived to walk the dog..I shouldn't complain but I'd really like to be able to walk the dog myself; I'd did try, tactfully to ask if I could have the house to myself this weekend but it fell on deaf ears. I know it's awful of me, expecially with so many of us being on our own [I had several years of that when the marriage broke up], but can anyone understand that sometimes I just want some solitude. Apologies; end of whinge, which I'm only doing as a procrastination technique....

janeainsworth Sat 10-Nov-12 11:02:25

jess I always find eye make-up a good morale booster.
jeni grin

jeni Sat 10-Nov-12 10:48:13

Oh yes! I remember, I'm going to visit Dd and DGD, but hang on, that's not til this afternoon! So, I repeat , what am I doing at this ungodly hour?confused

JessM Sat 10-Nov-12 09:24:15

I enjoyed dressing up for the mayors charity dinner. Strange events though. Saw quite a lot of people i recognised rather than knew. You spend most of the time only able to converse with the people right next to you. I think that I might start wearing eye makeup in the day again. I always wore it, for about 40 years and recently seem to have stopped. hmm

annodomini Sat 10-Nov-12 09:22:08

I'm going to have a nice relaxing swim later, and then settle down to watch my favourite sport on TV - the rugby autumn series. blush.

Jendurham Sat 10-Nov-12 09:19:03

I am going out into the cold to watch grandson, 10, play football.
Then going to the pictures with them this afternoon. It's nice to be included.
It's the nights at home on my own that are bad.
Fortunately I am not the only grandparent to go and watch the football, but I migt be the first to stop if it gets any colder up here.
