Jane x to you and the parents of the soldier

Yes grannyeggs I just caught the end of it. So pleased for them. Nice to see a reality TV prog in which people are given positive feedback and encouragement. Smiles all round.

Foul day here too. I had my dexa (bone density) scan today - necessary when on long-term steroids. A research organisation is offering the scans free to GPs' patients and will invite some of them to take part in research projects - no obligation. Anyway, they sent a taxi to take me to Manchester. Anyway, the scan was mostly fine, except for the head of the left femur which shows a bit of thinning. I am going back to speak to a doctor next month. On the way home in the taxi I was surprised when a lens from my glasses suddenly landed in my lap and my eyes went completely haywire! So have now been to the optometrist to leave the specs for repair, meanwhile using my old pair. Now - I just have to go and take my calcium tablets. grin

It's very cold and wet here too grannyeggs. Just off for a couple of hours of retail therapy. How did you manage to watch Masterchef when you're babysitting??

All I ever get to watch is CeBeebies! confused

Grannyeggs Fri 14-Dec-12 14:31:49

I am babysitting today and am about to set off in foul wet windy weather to get them the GC from school. Have just been catching up with last night's Masterchef final, loved the result, they are both amazing. Haven' been on GN much in the last month, so tonight will catch up with all the threads.

or even Christmas (hic!)

Gagagran Fri 14-Dec-12 14:24:53

Just got back from my WI Christmas party (with the Royal Marines Band - wowzer!) to find a parcel enclosing an illustrated copy of Grimms Fairy Tales from my lovely GN. Will make an deal birthday present for DGD no 3 in early February!

Thanks so much GN - what a nice surprise and I am especially lucky today - I won a hamper in the raffle at WI! Can't find a post to say thank you on so picked this one! Feeling very lucky, very mellow and very fortunate! Happy Christams fellow Grans and all at GN! smile

Oh yes, it is flat racing that is for wimps in posh hats isn't it. grin
You'd want a double layer of thermals and full waterproofs today though [yuk]
BTW we are getting the Tour de France start - with the first stage in Yorkshire next year. How cool is that? Wiggo defending his title all being well. What an unlikely looking sporting hero he is. I always look at him and think he'd translate well into Wallace and Grommet plasticene figure. grin
OK. Away from laptop to do some work, woman.

Nonu Fri 14-Dec-12 14:10:42

NH racing isn;t NH racing if you're not knee deep in mud and wearing thermals!

JessM Fri 14-Dec-12 13:32:44

They are going to be racing in Cheltenham in this weather???
Reunited with handbag now DH has returned from MIL's bedside. She is still in a nice single NHS room on the gynae ward and when a member of the medical team undertakes the trek across the hospital to see her they mainly complain about how far they had to walk. But she is having a transfusion today and hopes to be out tomorrow, fingers crossed.
So armed with handbag went to town and did a bit of off-line shopping and other errands. Sat in costa waterstones with my lap top for an hour. Got back to car to discover glove in puddle next to car. Luckily managed to spot other glove some way off. So the good news is: I did not manage to lose gloves! grin

Nonu Fri 14-Dec-12 12:44:43

Horrible , horrible day here , windy and rain lashing down .

We are going to get nice and snuggly and warm and watch the racing from Cheltenham on the box .

This is all entirely lovely news. I've had a minor knee op, Arthroscopy but it was under a general anaesthetic which I was a bit scared of. Anyway I seem to be recovering embarrassingly quickly! The op was only two days ago, I've been religiously doing the physio exercises and went for a slow short walk with a friend just now (in the rain!) and .... er .... it doesn't seem to be hurting and it doesn't seem much swollen or puffy at all. I am a bit high on the painkillers so I know I must be careful and slow and not be silly and then slip, but so far so very good! I know though that I can't get on my bike again for FOUR weeks. I happily asked the surgeon how long till I can swim again (at my beloved Senior Swim on a Friday morning) and of course he was utterly horrified! "That's an open wound you've got there", not till the stitches come out, etc etc. I felt truly daft!

And then this morning at 8.30 I had an email saying I've won a giant Gransnet Turkey for Christmas! Seems to be from the Rolls Royce of Turkey producers too. Am slowly starting to think who can I ask round for a larger lunch that I'd thought I'd be having! Lovely, wonderful, excellent. And it's not just the painkillers speaking. smile

Today we have collected the big girl's bicycle, GD1's Christmas present. We are going to give them their gifts on Sunday because of absence on Christmas day itself. I always thought Santa brought bikes, apparently it is more convenient for Grans to do it as they have big empty houses grin

Oldgreymare Fri 14-Dec-12 09:04:27

sorry smile.... seems MY tech probs are NOT sorted!!!

Oldgreymare Fri 14-Dec-12 09:03:30

Well, it's working for me now! (Tech probs sorted (fsmile)
kitty a gold star and flowers for being a supermum!

kittylester Fri 14-Dec-12 05:47:47

Yesterday, I drove DS1 to Sheffield for his annual check on his FES (functioning electrical stimulator, I think) As always, we can't speak too highly of the care he gets from the NHS, but WHY is his appointment always the week before Christmas and when the weather is really bad, ice and patchy fog this time, but not quite bad enough to have to cancel!!

I was exhausted by the time we got home but DH had bought take aways from the local Italian Deli/Restaurant and he even microwaved them!

JessM Thu 13-Dec-12 19:11:00

Oh of course. Confectionery central at Mumsnet Towers, distributing xmas treats already... Just got to try out the recipes. Does my bum look as big as Nigellas yet? (slurps brandy butter off index finger in a provocative manner) etc etc Sugar high from now until mid January. No chance of sorting out our humble tech probs.

yogagran Thu 13-Dec-12 18:22:50

Jess and anno - this problem has been here ALL WEEK. It's because tech have all that chocolate on their desks and they're not getting any work done....

annodomini Thu 13-Dec-12 09:42:05

No, that's not what Jess and I meant, Bags. If you're scrolling through the list of threads on, for example, 'Last Hour' and you come across one you want to read, it should be possible to click on the name of the last poster and come directly to the post in question, but at the moment it just takes you to the top of the thread.

Bags Thu 13-Dec-12 09:01:49

Going to look there, anno.....

Bags Thu 13-Dec-12 09:01:26

I thought clicking on the name of a poster took you to their public profile, if they have one. What haven't I understood?

annodomini Thu 13-Dec-12 09:00:06

I've now created a thread about this on 'Tech Stuff' - please add your voice.

annodomini Thu 13-Dec-12 08:54:37

No Jess, it's not just you. I mentioned it about a week ago and NOTHING has been done about it. Altogether now - SHOUT!
Last night we had NWR Christmas party - much hilarity and mulled wine. Something must have disagreed with me because I've been 'up' a few times overnight. And I've got the CAB today.
