Thanks Bags. I'm signing off now and getting ready to leave. I might just get a few moments with my son's family laptop while I'm away... Looking forward to seeing DiL's parents tomorrow - lovely people. And then the chaos of Christmas! DSs' great food. GC getting over-excited... parents getting testy; granny running for cover...
So very best wishes to all of you - if you are in the midst of your family; if you are missing loved ones; if you are alone and/or lonely; if you are ill or in pain; if you are caring for someone you love... I hope I've covered everyone...
with love, from Anno x x x x wine wine wine wine

Catching up on here...

Good luck with the tooth, anno!

Glad the concert went well, nelliem.

gracesmum, it sounds as if your DH could do with some transport help for his hospital appointments. flowers

Taught last lessons before Christmas break today; two of my students are leaving the town after Christmas, so they were very sad to say goodbye. Husband bumped into his parents in town and invited them home for dinner which was a lovely surprise. I (hardly dare say it, but.....) haven't coughed quite so much today and am wondering if I'm actually getting through it. And finally, today I have had lots of opportunities to talk to friends, students and family about Gransnet..........and was happy to tell all and sundry what a great bunch (like flowers you know) of women (and the occasional man) you are!! grin

annodomini Fri 21-Dec-12 23:49:09

Nellie - well done!flowers What a good feeling that is, when things have gone just right.smile
Thanks for the sympathy; the pain is a lot less - more localised - now that the antibiotic has kicked in, so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about Christmas. Almost finished wrapping and packing and taxi ordered to get me to the station - and I managed to bake a cake too. I am wondering what I might have forgotten... wink

Nelliemoser Fri 21-Dec-12 23:17:17

Went to our choir concert. It went OK the two pieces we had been getting horribly wrong for weeks were actually "all right on the night." I still have a buzz from a performance that has gone well.

Happy Christmas.

Nelliemoser Fri 21-Dec-12 23:13:09

Anno That can be really painful and feels like toothache. I had sinusitis in January last year. I probably should not have gone walking with a streaming cold but it didnt seem too bad when I set off! I hope it clears up soon.

kittylester Fri 21-Dec-12 10:14:01

gracesmum what a day for you both. Hopefully, you can take it easy today to recover. The stress must be quite wearing for you. (((hugs)))flowersbrew

Ariadne Fri 21-Dec-12 06:17:37

gracesmum what a day! It is hard, though, to have always to be the strong one, isn't it, no matter how much you love a person. I hope the rest of the day was restful, and send both of you a (hug) Hope you don't mind me hugging Mr G!

CHEELU Thu 20-Dec-12 23:19:12

gracemum you have every reason to moan but you are not moaning at all. I shudder to think how much worse things would be for your DH without you and your support. Best wishes.

gracesmum Thu 20-Dec-12 23:12:10

Thanks- PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis) is not something that will get better. The only "treatment" would be another liver transplant and he won't be considered for that because of his many other health issues. The dizziness and faintness has been going on since his heart surgery nearly 2 years ago. Ears and labyrinthitis have been discounted and nobody seems to have any bright ideas as to what is causing it. Possibly heart related but no real evidence. May be something up with which he will have to put!
Can't get hospital transport for so far away so it's trains and taxis (expensive!) as parking non-existent in Hampstead even at a price.
The hospital is the one where he had his transplant 17 years ago, CHEELU and where he is also treated for cardiac, lymphoma and gastro care as well as liver, so despite the inconvenience, we are very lucky that he is "on their books" as it were as they look after their transplant patients for life.
Sorry - not wishing to sound miserable or moaning as I am not. We cope. He is very lucky as the Royal Free has saved his life on more than one occasion!!

Sook Thu 20-Dec-12 23:00:13

gracesmum how awful for both of you. My DH is extremely lucky because he is able to travel by ambulance. This is not without drawbacks as the ambulance picks up other patients in the area and if he is the first pick up it can mean a long journey, but he is very grateful for the service. I honestly don't think he would be able to manage the journey by bus and train without my help.

Big hugs for you ((( )))) you have my sympathy. I hope the antibiotics do the trick. Take care of yourself.

CHEELU Thu 20-Dec-12 22:25:46

Dear graceman I am sorry that you had a bad day, its sounds like you have your hands full and are being quite brave. I cant believe they make you go to a hospital so far from your home. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

grannyactivist Thu 20-Dec-12 22:13:24

gracesmum that sounds like a pretty grim day out. I've never come across cholangitis before so looked it up; it sounds as if it could be quite distressing - and yes, you did need to go with him. flowers

glassortwo Thu 20-Dec-12 21:43:45

grace {{{hugs}}} for you both.

Bit of a nightmare journey to the hospital in London this morning with DH who was having a bone density scan. Trains all over the place for a start because of flooding further north, but that was good becasue we caught the train before the one we had planned to catch. Then DH started to feel dizzy and faint just as the train was coming through north London, so we sat tight until everybody had got off before getting down on to the platform Usually there is a disabled assistance "buggy" on the platform, but not today so he struggled the length of the platform (he uses 2 sticks) and up the ramp to the concourse but had to stop and steady himself on the handrail. I went on ahead and saw the disabled assistance "buggy" on the concourse and they took us back down to the lower floor and round to the taxi rank. There is no way he could have managed it on his own.The test at the hospital took less than half an hour so it was a long way to go for very little (apart from the wait) so we went straight back to Euston afterwards and were home by 2 o clock. But it brought it home to me why I have to go with him. He has not been well recently, another fever on Friday night, probably an episode of cholangitis but have managed to keep him out of hospital by starting on the emergency supply of antbiotics he was given after his last spell in hospital. I think, I know, he was quite shaken by it all. Fine now, fortunately smile

jO5 Thu 20-Dec-12 19:16:16

Nelliemoser do you live somewhere really cold? confused

AlieOxon Thu 20-Dec-12 19:02:53

Oh dear, anno - that's the last thing you want for Xmas. Good luck with the tooth - and wish me the same, as I have put off my next appointment until January, and i am keeping my fingers crossed.

whenim64 Thu 20-Dec-12 12:53:46

Great anno. Now you can relax and have a pain-free Christmas x

annodomini Thu 20-Dec-12 12:51:30

Dentist x-rayed the offending tooth which was showing signs of infection, but the dressing put in yesterday was still there. What the x-ray did show up was sinusitis which could well explain at least some of the pain. I have antibiotics but not the kind you can't take with alcohol - I made sure of that. So I should now be able to survive Christmas.

Anne58 Thu 20-Dec-12 10:48:48

Mr P has just 'phoned to say he's on his way home! I just hope I can fend off the invasion of the coffee machines when he's not looking. confused
