Who haunts your dreams?

Travelodge conducted a poll to find which public figures most regularly caused people to have nightmares. George Osborne came top, followed by Gordon Brown in second place and Katie Price in third. Other nightmare-inducing people included Wayne Rooney, Sir Alex Ferguson, Justin Bieber and Ann Widdecombe.

I admit to my sleep being disturbed by Tony Blair and Vladimir Putin. I have also conducted a fierce argument with Michael Gove in my dreams but I think I won so it wasn't a nightmare. Who wakes you up at night?

Do all teachers have a built in guilt complex? My recurring teaching dreams feature;
1) being late and unable to find the numbers on my phone to ring in
2) trying to do a register and the names keep changing
3) trying to teach a subject I know nothing a bout and thinking "I can bluff my way through this -and I can't"
I retired 2 years ago so these should be safely behind me by now!

I have a recurring dream , on off for many years, that I haven't finished all my teacher training work and I'm not really qualified - have been teaching for 33 years so a bit worrying really!

grannyact Yes, I've shared your nightmare. shock

Jendurham Wed 07-Nov-12 01:53:38

I never dream, or rather, I never remember my dreams if I do dream.
However, I quite often wake up worried that I have not got all the coursework in, and I gave up teaching English when the National Curriculum came in.
All my family have told me about dreams they've had about their dad and grandad. He would not come to me in any dreams as he knows I wouldn't remember them!

GA, I had a similar nightmare, only I was being chased by a teddy bear which got bigger and bigger, till it became man-sized, then changed into a big lump of raw meat like you see hanging up at the butcher`s. I was terrified of going to sleep, and it went on for about 2 years.

From being very young I had a recurring nightmare which only stopped after I married the WM. It was of me running away from someone along empty, darkened streets in the rain, running from lamppost to lamppost. Just as I was caught I found I was unable to scream and would wake up gasping and silently screaming. It was so scary, not being able to scream in my dream, that as a child I used to go regularly to the nearby fields and scream my head off to practise.

My recurring dream is that I am late for school exams and, even though there is only one day left before I finish school altogether and I could just stop going, I rush around trying to find clothes to put on. Just as I wake up, I realise that I can just not bother to show up, and I feel immense relief. I have this dream every month or so. Analysis, please! grin

By the way, I left school with one English 'O' level, having played truant to avoid maths, history, biology and physics practically every week for the last year. Just couldn't stand it any longer!

Doh! I thought you meant it. grin made me laugh.

jO5 Tue 06-Nov-12 18:43:26

I did start to worry about the guinea pigs! grin

crimson Tue 06-Nov-12 18:42:13

No; that's the dream Jess! Crikey; addition to holiday dream..no one to feed guinea pigs, about to fly in half an hour and still on gransnet....[oh and quite often I can't find my passport]. Funny thing is that, when it comes to holidays I'm organised beyond belief [which is not me at all].

JessM Tue 06-Nov-12 18:36:57

Have a good trip Crimson and get off the computer

crimson Tue 06-Nov-12 17:58:18

I'm about to go on holiday in half an hour and I haven't packed or got anyone to look after the guinea pigs while I'm away [haven't had guinea pigs for about 20 years and haven't flown anywhere for @ 6]. Never dream about famous people. One of the saddest dreams I had was of my sister in law telling me that my marriage had always been unhappy [she had actually said that to me]. I woke up crying and ran downstairs to my husband [we were in the process of separating but still living together] saying over and over again 'but we were happy, weren't we', to which he agreed. Over ten years later the dream is still vivid. And the nightmares I had as a child are still as vivid to me now as they were then. And, yes, I'm always dreaming about needing the loo! Seem to spend half the night going to the loo and half the night dreaming about it sad.

JessM Tue 06-Nov-12 16:48:17

Yes indeed. Someone once proposed that this was the brain's way of trying to stay asleep, despite messages from the bladder trying to wake it up.
I don't often have a vivid dream but I had one while in a single bed in MIL's the other night. DH and I had signed up for the marines! We were on our way to join our ship. The awful reality was dawning on me - seasickness, lots of PE, guns and Bunks in Dormitories with strangers. i was so relieved when I woke up and remembered I was too old for this ever to happen!

soop Tue 06-Nov-12 16:39:04

The answer to your question, number is in the affirmative. hmm

Ella46 Tue 06-Nov-12 16:34:10

Yes, number I have! It's very disconcerting! hmm

feetlebaum Tue 06-Nov-12 16:26:17

Or that they are enthroned on the lavatory, and suddenly it's out in the open, in a very public place? I sometimes wonder about my mother's toilet training methods...

numberplease Tue 06-Nov-12 16:20:11

Has anyone else dreamt that they`re sitting on the toilet, and woken up just in time to go? I have, several times!

Stansgran Tue 06-Nov-12 14:27:07

So do I and awful dreams about the roof leaking(it still does)

Grannybags Tue 06-Nov-12 14:27:01

How interesting. I thought it was just me! I wonder what it means?

glitabo Tue 06-Nov-12 14:11:42

I very often dream that I want to go to the toilet and can only find very dirty, overflowing ones. I am pleased it is not just me! confused

jO5 Tue 06-Nov-12 13:59:29

I have dreams about public toilets. Recurring.

I do have OCD.

absentgrana Tue 06-Nov-12 13:08:21

Grannybags I have only ever met one other person besides myself who has recurring dreams about festering lavatories – usually public ones at the seaside. I am very puzzled by them.

Grannybags Tue 06-Nov-12 12:19:57

I don't think I have ever had a dream about a public figure. My dreams usually feature overflowing toilets and tip-toeing about in sewage. I thinks that says a lot about my sanity!! hmm

celebgran Tue 06-Nov-12 10:21:24

predictably I dream about my estranged daughter - sometimes it is painful to wake up, I dreamt about asking her why she had another babe without telling us couple weeks ago, I always wake before getting any answers!!

I think our dreams are supposed to help us keep our sanity!!

in my case it probably does!!

Ana Tue 06-Nov-12 10:14:22

No public figure has caused me to have nightmares, in fact I very rarely have them. I did have a rather strange dream featuring Boris Johnson a while ago, though - the fact that I can still remember anything about it is proof that it had a strong effect on me!
