Loved the Christmas ad for John Lewis with the Snow people.smile
Also liked the Debenhams one - very christmassy and the Iceland one is quite good this year too!

Up to now I've liked all the ads.

Only seen the John Lewis one so far (don't watch much TV) and thought it was very clever

I must admit that this year there are some very imaginative and quite moving ads - less of the manic jollity of previous years!

Uk adverts are the best in the world, so full of humour and even sarcasm. In mainland Europe it is still far to heavy à la 'Omo washes whiter than white', etc.

But what I really do HATE with a vengeance, and should be much more controlled in the UK, is adverts aimed at children. All the childrens' channels have been bombarding children with adverts for toys for Christmas, from the beginning of ... October. Poor kids. And many of those border on the fraudulent, as their show inanimate plastic toys doing amazing stunts and feats, which of course will never ever be true in the real world.

Our grand-children are just another huge money market, and they are manipulated and used in a disgusting way.

My favourite so far is the Debenhams one, very Christmassy but not too sad unlike the John Lewis, beautiful but what a tear jerker! Not really impressed with the M&S one this time, they've done better in previous years.

I don't think the John Lewis ad is sad! Touching, maybe...

Just seen the latest John Lewis ad on line, very imaginative and possibly quite touching, if you happen to believe the snowman and woman are real, I'm not absolutely convinced of this, or for that matter if indeed there is a person called Father Christmas, suspiciously he seems to be in too many places at the same time for my liking! I haven't taken that much notice of other Christmas ads. usual same old, same old, buy all this rubbish or your kids will have a deeply unhappy Christmas, might serve them right though! Bah humbug!

Ana Sun 11-Nov-12 18:37:21

You mean...the snowman and woman aren't real!?? sad

annodomini Sun 11-Nov-12 18:43:10

I think that snowman looks a bit sinister... shock

BAnanas Sun 11-Nov-12 18:44:16

I'm kinda thinking along those lines Ana, cos where do they go when they melt? Don't say underground!

Ana Sun 11-Nov-12 18:55:59

You're right, anno.....hmm

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 19:19:26

It's lovely.

Ana Sun 11-Nov-12 19:22:49

Yes. Charming. smile

absentgrana Sun 11-Nov-12 19:26:56

It's an advertisement…

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 19:30:05

So?

Ana Sun 11-Nov-12 19:32:53

It's also entertainment! It doesn't make me want to shop at John Lewis! hmm

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 19:38:37

I do anyway. But it won't make me spend any more!

annodomini Sun 11-Nov-12 20:07:59

I pay very little attention to ads anyway and I don't think this one would influence me one way or the other. I tend towards the frugal in my Christmas shopping and hope my family will feel the same way. It's quite enough for me to be with them all.

Ana Sun 11-Nov-12 20:43:23

Just seen the Morrisons one. How depressing......confused

merlotgran Sun 11-Nov-12 21:03:06

Christmas adverts don't influence my shopping at all. Some of them are fun, some are irritating, some ridiculous but they're part and parcel of the run up to Christmas. Nice to see the back of them when it's over though grin

harrigran Sun 11-Nov-12 23:10:40

John Lewis cheated, the ad was filmed in New Zealnd with lots of computer trickery. They do not influence my shopping as I only buy for the children.

BlueSky Sun 11-Nov-12 23:30:29

The Morrison Xmas advert is horrendous...shock
