Absent, ours date from 1970, some are standard 8, then we bought a new camera in 1980 and that was super 8. I love looking at them and seeing myself still slim, then I look in the mirror and get all miserable at what I`ve become! A family friend put them onto DVD for us, he`s got his own videoing business, it was cheaper, but still cost us £130. Then 2 of our kids had the cheek to borrow them and made their own copies off them!!

Sorry - my old Ferrograph is somewhere upstairs, but it was pretty well kaput when I last saw it. It's hard enough to find something to play/record cassettes on these - days - I've just loaned mine to my step-daughter, but I certainly want it back!

number I have masses of Super8 film inherited from my father. The first one, which wasn't even Super, was my christening (1950). It's a huge archive. Heaven alone knows what it's going to cost but there's also lots of stuff that has nothing to do with the family and which doesn't really interest me, except in an historical and geographical sense.

An old type tape recorder is something that I also wish I could lay my hands on, we have an old tape of our kids saying nursery rhymes, would love to listen to them again. We/I saved up for ages to get all our standard and super 8 cine films transferred to DVD a couple of years ago, can`t really afford it again, just for a short tape.

Sorry, I slung mine (in a green way) when I moved up here in 2010. However, it's worth asking the companies that convert the material, if there is a way they can help you access the bit you specifically want. I have boxes of Super8 cine film and although I have a projector, the film is very fragile, so it is hard to find the bits I want transferred to DVD. Good luck.

Thanks for trying Smoluski....maybe some one here will see this who does have one in the attic.
I don't know what happened to the one I had from my dad but it wasn't in the attic when I moved six years ago!

At least I know the small tapes (5") will still play, so the others probably will.
It's the big ones that don't fit on the player my sister got. And that's about 10 hours of stuff.

Alie have googled it is possible to transfer these into cd's if you are unable to source a tape recorderxxx

AlieOxon Sun 18-Nov-12 16:50:56

Yeah Smoluski thanks but I know - and I can't afford to have them all done it's about £25 a time and I don't know where the bit of recording is!

I just need to use a machine and find it, then it might be worth it.....

Smoluski Sun 18-Nov-12 16:46:20

Alie think there are companies that will make these into CD's for you, will have alook xxxx

I was musing elsewhere on GN about my old tapes (60s) and that my grandparents are on one of about 7 large (7") tapes. I very much want to hear them again.

- any one here got an old player that can play these??????
-that is, in reach of Oxfordshire?
