Landslides have blocked The Road (there is only one). DH set off this morning, got to the bottom of the hill and got flagged down. The school buses won't be able to get round either. What larks!

Where are you??

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 08:32:26

I hope you share my siege mentality, and have lots of food in stock!

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 08:39:21

I looked up the BBC Travel news for Scotland - there are several road closures in Argyll and Bute, mostly due to flooding. Is your daughter upset about missing school?

Bags Mon 19-Nov-12 08:48:43

Nope! She has gone down to her friend's house down the hill grin

DH did manage to get through to his train. Water "only up to the running boards" was his comment when he rang a few minutes ago. Guess why we have a 4x4 wink.

Life continues as normal, then. wink

That's us, butty wink. The back door boot-washing 'moat' is good this morning.

OH dear what fun bagshope you and my lovely soop are safe and well [worriedemoticon]

We get stuck here sometimes and there is usually a sense of holiday about it as long as we have food and fuel to last - a break from routine! Do you have a boat?

soop Mon 19-Nov-12 13:57:44

NellieSmol A bit soggy but still okay! The Rest and Be Thankful road is closed...yet another landslide. I shall still be joining my pals in Glasgow next Tuesday. The bus may need to take an alternative route. If so, I may be about forty minutes late. smile

I saw pictures on the lunchtime news of the flooding in Comrie. The rain seems to have caused a dreadful amount of damage.

Smoluski Mon 19-Nov-12 14:14:37

Will that be a case of "she's coming round the mountains when she comes" grin

soop Mon 19-Nov-12 14:32:11

Sure will, NellieSmol...but I'll not be wearing pink pyjamas. Not classy enough! grin

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 14:35:11

Oh, dear - I am taking my sister from Manchester to Glasgow on Christmas Eve - I hope the motorway is clear.

Bags Mon 19-Nov-12 14:39:17

Pity you won't be in Glasgow longer, G, or we could arrange to meet up.

annodomini Mon 19-Nov-12 15:08:26

Don't worry, Greatnan, the M74 is nowhere near the Rest and Be Thankful. Isn't that the best name for a road? Somewhat misleading today, though.

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 15:41:52

I would have loved to have met our Scottish contingent. I will be staying at my nephew's house in Carnbroe,
Coatbridge. I will get the route on viaMichelin - my sister has been driven there numerous times but as she can neither drive nor map-read she is useless as a navigator!

I remember towing a 21' sailing cruiser, filled with camping gear, with a Ford Anglia. We were heading for Plockton and it was touch and go if we would get up that hill. We were certainly thankful!

I love Scotland - if it had been about 30C warmer and with less midges, I might well have settled there! We always had such a warm welcome on our many holidays.

isthisallthereis Mon 19-Nov-12 23:32:33

Comrie seems to have been hit really bad according to tonight's news. Is that where you are?

Greatnan Tue 20-Nov-12 00:53:59

I am in France, and it has been sunny all week! I am visiting Scotland at Christmas.

Marelli Tue 20-Nov-12 09:32:20

When are you in Coatbridge, Greatnan, and for how long?

Greatnan Tue 20-Nov-12 09:43:23

We are driving up on Christmas Eve and leaving on Boxing Day. It will be nice for my sister to see her grandchildren opening their presents. I don't mind the drive, as long as the weather is not too horrible. It is not nice to drive on motorways in driving rain or snow!

Marelli Tue 20-Nov-12 12:03:47

If only you'd been able to stay longer, Greatnan - I'm sure we'd have been able to have arranged a 'gathering'. So many of us would love to meet you.

Greatnan Tue 20-Nov-12 12:08:43

And there are so many of you that I would love to meet! It is amazing how quickly you can feel that you have made friends amongst people you have never met. And when I did meet some, I was not disappointed - they were just as lovely as I had thought.
I can honestly say that Gransnet has enhanced my life since I joined.

Marelli Tue 20-Nov-12 12:44:50

Mine too, Greatnan. I feel just the same. I think we get to know each other through the threads and recognise those 'like-minded' to ourselves. When we do eventually meet up, it's as if we've known each other for a long time. smile

soop Tue 20-Nov-12 13:46:44

Greatnan and Marelli my thoughts, too. flowers
