Floods - anyone else had a problem?

I know crimson I worry about them too. I was worried when my fox didn't come for his food on Saturday night but he was back last night thank goodness. I know I shouldn't encourage him but I can't help myself. Sorry Nanadog and all those who have chickens. Hopefully he is so well fed he won't need to raid any chicken runs.

I was wondering about all the animals affected when I drove down the road to see how high the River Trent is [it's very high and a lorry with full of sandbags pulled up behind me]. At least I can't see The Derwent on the horizon yet; when they both flood we're sandwiched between them .

Oh dear Nanadog. I wonder whether there is a hedgehog rescue near to you. It sounds as though it will need help to get through the winter now.

Just rescued a baby hedgehog, cold and wet. Wonder where it's nest mates are? Put in a box in a warm place with some food and water. Poor little thing.

Chickens have lots of room and trees they can climb. At the present they've taken refuge in the now-empty greenhouse and are having 'sand' baths in the dry soil...it must be the ONLY dry soil in Warwickshire.

Have they come back? Or do you need to go out with a Nanabarrel under your chin to rescue them ?[umbrella] emoticon

As long as the chickens are all right, Nanad, that's all that matters!

There are two different scenarios here; the Avon flooding into the meadows and some gardens, and the Gog and Fisher Brooks which flow across the flood plain and empty into the Avon and are in full flow which means there is nowhere for the excess rainwater to go. So the ground was saturated and the race course (which is on the flood plain) turned into a lake with run off from higher ground. Luckily the drains are coping still and things are slightly better today we think.
I was once in a flood situation where water was shooting back out of the drains like fountains and the roads turned into rivers.
We're not exactly on a hill nfk but on a slight rise. I've just send MrDog and little GS on a reconnaissance mission to gauge the situation and released a dove!

I just hope all of you in flood hit areas are Ok. I hope for a safe and dry night for you.

Oh my word! If you're between the Avon and the race course I do hope it's on a hill. Fingers crossed you stay dry.

(what gorgeous grandchildren you have. And I like guinea pigs too, it's the way they get excited when you go near. Impossible to house train though)

Hope we're safe too nightowl we're between the Avon and the Racecourse and the Avon is flooding too. More rain on the way we've just been warned.

Goodness me Nanadog those floods are scary. I hope your house is safe. I feel very lucky to be unaffected. Although I live in an area of the East Midlands which used to be very badly affected by floods, we now have excellent flood defences.

No, they're well out of range of flooding, Alie and DS isn't commuting by road any more. Just had a long chat with his partner which makes a change as he usually hogs the phone! Oh, Christmas plans - doing my head in!

Hope not too many problems for them anno.

Must find out how the family are doing down there. DS said there were massive train delays an cancellations in and out of Paddington last week.

Floods?
I came back from Oxford today and nearly tried to go over the old bridge at Clifton Hampden - forgetting that I came that way, drove through water (just ok) on the Didcot side; and had seen that the water on the other side was HIGHER than the road, only it wasn't getting through.....coming back, it was getting through....SO not a good idea to go over the bridge and find the other side even deeper.
So I didn't. Came back via Culham instead.

Saw loads of people taking pics of flooded fields all day!
