Too cold and wet out there

Grace says "Thank you" Geraldine and Kat-ladies at GNHQ for saying mum doesn't need to stay out here any longer. I think she has learned her lesson but it has been an education for her to read lots of posts without giving in to the temptation to respond. And not a lot of kennels have wi-fi you know.

Thank you for messages of support and even jo5 saying I can come back .
Quote: "Give it a few days. You will start to feel better and then you could come back." [pathetically grateful] emoticon, but then I read on and well, no surprises there.
Like the ins and outs of parliamentary procedure I do hope that it was more how I expressed myself rather than the sentiments but it was reassuring that a lot of Grannies seemed to agree with me. But 'nuff said (I am educated enough to know that is not how you spell it, just a turn of phrase) If it is occasionally like having to walk through the boys' lavatories to get to the library, so be it. I will look on' it as a tolerable price to pay for the friendship I have met, the supportive advice and the (mostly) intelligent observations of my fellow Grannies.
I know this is a different thread but if I may just comment on jo5's "advice" to anybody contemplating joining Gransnet, it amounts to four words - be sincere- be genuine.
It's not about education, it's not about spelling, it's not about who can shout the loudest and it's not about who can be the wittiest.
"To thine own self be true" - and you can't go far wrong.

Oh Crimson so sorry you had such a bad day, what an ungrateful lot you work with! I do agree there are people out there who seem to get some sort of buzz from hurting people but I just don't get it. Why? If someone can explain to me why anyone would diliberately hurt someone else it would answer something I have always wanted to know.

I hope the pressure of the steam has all gone now but if they do it again then this seems to be a good place to sound off. wine why isn't this emoticon a whole bottle?

I seem to be in the doghouse at work. Why is it that, no matter how hard you work, how much time and effort you put into your job [I've spent the past two weekends sleeping most of the time to recover], how many times you drop everything in your own life to help out, there is always someone who goes out of their way to make you unhappy. There's one in every business isn't there? That's a statement, not a question by the way but I'm so brassed off I've forgotten the word. And then I get home and, just as I'm about to tuck into my well earned dinner I get a call from someone to tell me there's a fault in my computer and, if I just turn it on they will talk me through the problem angry. They chose the wrong time and the wrong person to try that one on with today, methinks wink. Apologies, by the way; just needed to let off steam. Feel better now. Ithanku. blush Aha; rhetorical!!! sunshine

I was always the last to be picked for team games (We're not having her - we had her last week) and I had to be goalie in netball, which meant just standing around freezing cold. How I hated the PE teacher - I continued to hate them when I was teaching with them!
So if we are having a rugby team, I will do the orange slices (is that rugby?)

At the risk of offending anyone who lives there (None came to the Midlands meet) don't go to Coventry, its not the most beautiful place in the Midlands although of course the cathedral is worth a visit. smile

JessM Tue 27-Nov-12 12:25:38

Or the rugby changing rooms.
This thread is getting progressively dottier isnt it.
Am going to try to imagine the GN virtual rugby team... this is an imaginative stretch methinks?

Greatnan Tue 27-Nov-12 11:26:18

But it is partly because of your leftie-atheist posts that I love you! If you ever get sent to Coventry, I will come and join you. smile
Mind you, it could get even more crowded there than in your doghouse.

Oh dear - I'm a bit confused with this thread.

Anyway, I'm an Antipodean Yorkie who loves to talk to anyone and everyone: other Aussies and Kiwis understand a bit more about where I live, of course, so it is nice to talk to them. But at heart I'm English through and through, which is why I love this forum.

I sometimes think my leftie, atheist posts might get me sent to the doghouse too (well, in this house the dog house is the laundry room - not a lot of room for me when our over-fed retriever is in residence though) but it hasn't happened yet. It is hard to offend me, as I tend to think any challenging post is just a great opening for debate. Blame my family - always argumentative.

Remember how people used to get 'sent to Coventry' when they'd outraged their fellow workers? I wonder if that expression is still used. Wouldn't like to go there - well, not to the metaphorical Coventry anyway. Nor to the doghouse. Anyway, I'd get lost on the way, 'cos I'm easily confused.

Like now.

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 20:16:00

Trying to think how we could have a virtual rugby team but have given up to watch University Challenge.

Sel Mon 26-Nov-12 19:58:36

anno Big disappointment then. I was hoping there would be a Grannies team somewhere that I could join. The mental picture smile! I was somewhat worried about my thighs and those skirts!

london Mon 26-Nov-12 19:53:08

crimson its nice to no smile

crimson Mon 26-Nov-12 19:50:09

london; I'm constantly googling words to find out either what they mean or how to spell them. And, even then I spell things wrong blush.

london Mon 26-Nov-12 19:41:37

selgrin

Sel Mon 26-Nov-12 19:38:38

london well, as a semi educated person, it's not the words, it's the way they arrange them. Don't let them get you down (and I restrained myself there) You are most welcome in my bikeshed but sadly it seems to have been scuppered (hole driven in and sunk smile)

london Mon 26-Nov-12 19:37:54

grace its been horrible today .its never stopped .Im ok my house is on top of a bank so no risk of flooding .but i do feel for the ones in other parts of the country x

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 19:36:44

Sel, believe nothing that JO says. wink I was joking about the All Blacks and she has managed wilfully to misinterpret what I said grin. Yes, it was hockey for me too. I once got the ball on my mouth which fortunately was closed at the time, but otherwise spectacularly bruised shins. Strangely, I enjoyed it but only made it to the second XI - so disappointed.
